hi all,

my 11 month, nearly 1 year old, has never been the best sleeper. recently, shes been starting in her cotbed then coming in with me because I'm so tired as have started work again that its easier than constantly trying to resettle her.

a friend has recommended this product. I was wary of the smaller one as had seen mixed views on their safety for unsupervised sleep. but now she is so mobile and is able to crawl/roll/pull herself up the immediate concerns I have are not so much there. I have a couple of questions:

are these safe for the age she is now? ie. over heating/not pushing her face against the sides.

could I use one of these in a co sleeping sense? i am worried she will fall out of my bed atm even though I sleep right against the edge and she has the rest of the bed to herself! a queen size no less lol.

or would she possibly sleep better in her own bed with one of these? interested in peoples experiences!

thanks

Hey

I bought a sleepyhead grand as my son loved his normal sleepyhead. Yes he does sleep in it at night, I understand this is against guidelines. However we co sleep and I feel comfortable he won’t roll out the bed and there’s a barrier between us so I can’t squash him.
He’s very comfortable in there, has not over heated and as he can roll himself I am not too worried he’d suffocate on the sides. It is quite big and he has space to move in there

Just my opinion but I’m really pleased with it

They are not recommended by the lullaby trust as they increase the chances of SIDS.

Tbh OP you'd be better off sleep training, rather than spending £200 on something that you shouldn't let your child sleep in overnight anyway.

There aren't mixed views on their safety for overnight sleep, by the way. The product itself states they shouldn't be used for unsupervised sleep. It's just that lots of people ignore that.

We used it for our little one. Got the smaller one then this one when outgrown. Now in a toddler bed totally fine. Was definitely worth it imo.

ohh really mixed views then! tbh I dont mind co sleeping but I really suffer with anxiety. I get all sorts of scenarios in my head. I guess as co sleeping isnt really recommended there isnt really much advice in terms of them not falling out the bed. I suppose I could put something on the floor like cushions or her mattress perhaps. I'll probably want to secure any heavy furniture to the wall aswell if I take this route though

Or you could get a bedguard?

I have to say, as someone who also has pretty awful anxiety, the single most useful thing i did for it during the first year of my baby's life was get her sleep sorted. When i was properly rested, not dreading each night or beset by Bedtime Fear, i was suddenly so much less miserable and anxious. Proper sleep changes everything. That and medication.

is there not the risk that she could get stuck between mattress and the guard? yes it horrible having to try to work every day on awful sleep :(

Yes, there is a small risk, but you could pad it if you were concerned.

I really think your best bet would be to take a week off work and do CC to get her sleeping through in her own bed. It SUCKS. But it was a lifesaver for us.

hmm I'll have to have a think!
