A bit lost...advice for 1st Birthday gifts please!

My little girl turns 1 in December and then obviously Christmas follows very shortly after.

I'd like to buy her gifts which will last her well up until second birthday as she doesn't have a mid-year birthday to replenish the stocks so to speak!

She already has a little ball pit and we have bought her a trike for Christmas - any other suggestions please?

I am considering a toy kitchen, but is she a bit young?

Thanks in advance

Picture books
Dolls/toy stroller/doll bed
Toddler crayons
Easel & paints or blackboard & chalk
Rug with road design on for playing with cars
Duplo
Wooden puzzles (the sort where the pieces have handles and you put the cow in the cow-shaped hole etc)
The toy that's a cube with square, circle, triangle holes and they have to push the matching shape through
Toy piano
Definitely toy kitchen! Ikea has a good one
Balance bike but she wouldn't be able to use it until 18 months old or so (unless you hold her on it and push it around, they like that too). Make sure to get a good quality one that is very light. Easier for the kid to ride and easier on you when you go for a walk and they don't feel like riding anymore and you have to carry it!
A hiking backpack if you don't have one, so you can take her for nature walks in places that prams are impractical

A baby tent/play house! My 1 year old was obsessed going in and out the door.

Hide and squeak eggs and stacking cups of you don't have them already. Doesn't sound like much but my DC got so much play out if them and still does at nearly 3.

Really simple jigsaws are good and those wooden peg puzzles too.

Oh yes Smithtylater my friend bought DC1 a pop up fire station tent for his first birthday and he still plays with it with his little brother 6 years later!

We saved the toy kitchen for second birthday, but some little bits which will eventually live in the kitchen may be good - a tea set, some wooden "cutting" foods etc.

Zofloratheexplora · 06/11/2020 12:31

I wouldn't both with the kitchen until 2.5 at the earliest.

Hits for both of my DC's between 1-2 were:-

1 Megabloks

  1. Push along walker (we had vtech which they loved)
  2. Tomy eggs
  3. Baby Einstein piano

Some ideas:
Books
Megabloks
Form board puzzle
Musical instruments
Bath toys
Clik clak track
Leapfrog picnic basket
Toy food for cutting
Wooden bus with little figures
Rocking horse
Toddler backpack with reins

@peaky297, following as my ds is 1 in Dec too! We also thought of a toy kitchen, but are gonna save that for next Christmas after looking at the ages on most of them. However, we are thinking of getting him some bits from Smyths (or possibly trying to find them 2nd hand!) like a pop up toaster with bread etc and a 'my first till' that are both 12 months plus.

My parents have got us a Thomas the Tank megablocks set 🙂

I think we're gonna say to some relatives to get vouchers instead of presents, then save them to get him some stuff in the summer, like a little swing or something.

Oh a membership for a zoo, museum or playcentre is good - perhaps a suggestion for far away relatives
