It didn’t make me thin. It made my blood sugar drop every time I breastfed, so I had to eat because I felt sick and shaky. High levels of prolactin can cause insulin resistance and make you hungry. Plus I was constantly tired because DC pestered me for milk during the night and tiredness made me reach for carbs. I stopped bf and dropped two stone in a matter of weeks.

Horehound I got my periods back at 14/15 months each time. I have a feeling that I was told 14 months was about average at the time, but it was many years ago so I may have misremembered.

@Horehound

Can I ask at what point people's periods came back? My boy feeds first thing and last thing and maybe one other feed in the day. He's 14 months. I am awaiting periods to restart to try and conceive again. Also, if I decided to skip the morning milk and just go straight for brekkie is that ok? HV said they need 400mls of milk at 14 months and he doesnt really drink much cow's mik :/
I got mine back at about 14 months.

When I was fed up of it and actively stopped in the day (distraction) then limited night feeds (ie I’m going to count to ten then a cuddle).

thecakebadge · 06/11/2020 06:45

Stopped at 21 months when I fell pregnant again as it was giving nag me cramps every time I fed. I thought it would be awful as DD was super attached and would feed about 15 times a day (!) but I explained to her that milky was gone and we could have cuddles instead. She cried this little heartbreaking cry for about ten seconds but then never asked again!

My LG self weaned at 17 months. She was down to one feed and just didn't want it any more :-( I was happy to go until 2 ish but she didn't want it

You don’t need periods to conceive again. A period comes after ovulation, so you can get pregnant. You might ovulate and not know it ! I remember my first child being 7 months. I was sat there breastfeeding with milk coming out at the top and period blood coming out at the bottom. I was crying and felt so low, wondering where the old me had gone. I made the decision there and then that he was going on the bottle, I wanted my body back. Funnily enough I made it to 12 months with the next one.
Leomoon · 06/11/2020 12:39

@Horehound my periods are back with my 15 month old. I wouldn’t worry about dropping feeds and going straight to breakfast - ds has done this himself and we don’t drink cows milk as a family. As long as they’re getting a varied diet they’ll be fine

Ok thanks all. He is still waking in the night for feeds and I hate it tbh.
God is be so happy if I lost two stone 🤞

Itllbeaninterestingchristmas · 06/11/2020 20:21

I stopped at 2 years 9 months I was 22 weeks pregnant, his latch was dreadful and I’d had enough. Given the chance to bf again now he would but I’m not feeding two.
My periods came back at exactly 3 months last time.

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 06/11/2020 20:25

I don't know - I just knew! I was back at work FT and she was 17 months and we were down to just feeds in the morning and evening and I must say I found it embarrassing at the weekends when she would try and lift my top and say 'boobies' when other people were around. I had a week with three late nights at work so my husband was doing bedtime and that was it - I cried a little just after the last time but she never fussed did it again.

Jobseeker19 · 06/11/2020 20:26

For me it starts to feel annoying.
Like, get off, arhhh

BertieBotts · 06/11/2020 22:31

DS1 periods took 18 months.

DS2 they came back at 4 Angry

BertieBotts · 06/11/2020 22:33

DS2 is annoying with his bedtime feeds at the moment. He does these exaggerated pretend sucks and has to have every limb touching the other boob at all times.

This is what I feel like every night.
HomesUnderTheSpanner · 06/11/2020 23:05

My period came back when DS was only 5 months despite him still BFing every 3 hours night and day. I was gutted and hoped it would take much longer to come back.

HomesUnderTheSpanner · 06/11/2020 23:06

Sorry, I tried to reply to @horehound above but it didn't tag you.

chilledteacher · 06/11/2020 23:08

2 weeks after his 2nd birthday. We had had a lovely peaceful bedtime feed and it just seemed like the "right" time to stop. He was going to stay with my parents the next day for a couple of nights and the plan had been to pump and dump to keep up supply. But I didn't. And he was fine.

Llamapolice · 06/11/2020 23:12

My DD self weaned at 17mo, she was down to 1-2 feeds a day, then had a nasty stomach bug and once recovered would only scream when I offered. She always absolutely loved solid food though, have wondered if that was a factor in it being fairly early.

Ruralbliss · 06/11/2020 23:42

At 14 months and I had to read at my gran's funeral - the idea of a toddler loudly demanding boobie in front of a hushed elderly crowd made me fast-track it but it took less than a day of days 'No. all gone' and she's wasn't fussed. Didn't mind at all. I did though. Missed our special times for a while.

hf2345 · 07/11/2020 14:35

Mine self weaned at 15 months 😭

hf2345 · 07/11/2020 14:36

@Llamapolice

Same for my little one , LOVES food I think they started to prefer it over a breastfeed.

Whatagreytdoggo · 09/11/2020 18:13

Mine self weaned at 2 & 1/2 years. Periods came back after about 17 months.
