Baby Bjorn mini Vs Ergobaby embrace carriers

Wondering if anyone has used either of these carriers and if they'd recommend them and even better if they've tried both for comparison?

Second baby and will have a still quite young toddler when this one is newborn so keen to do baby wearing but I tried multiple slings and slings type hybrids with my first and they're just not for me so keen to try a soft structured carrier this time instead that's a bit more idiot proof!

I've narrowed down to these two but have a couple of worries with each after looking at pictures/online reviews. Love the look of the head support and adjustable length of the baby Bjorn mini but worried it won't be very supportive on my back after a while as I suffer with my upper back shoulders as it is. And with the ergo baby embrace - feel like would be much more comfortable to wear and probs last longer in terms of support but just worried about whether the head and neck support will feel enough as doesn't look like the neckline comes up that high which might then defeat trying to be hands free!

Any experiences with either?

I went for the embrace as it felt so soft and snuggly plus I really wanted one that was ergonomic and definitely going to support my baby the 'right' way. It also just looked way comfier to me, I don't want one that pulls on my back or digs in. The instructions say you roll the waistband to adjust how high it comes up depending on their age and size etc. so I'm confident it will support my baby's head Smile

Definitely the ergbobaby. The bjorn mini looks like they've made a half hearted attempt to make it ergonomic because everyone now knows that their carriers are really poor quality, but in lots of photos, baby still isn't in the right position. The embrace looks lovely though.

If you can, get to a sling library. They have carriers to try or even borrow and pictures online are a very poor substitute for this.

Definitely the Ergobaby. Bjorns are dreadful.

I love love loved my Baby Bjorn mini. It was very comfy for both of us and and easy to put on.

DD was under a hip specialist briefly and she told me that it was fine for her.

I've now got an Ergobaby Omni (not the embrace so I can't comment on that) but I don't like it half as much. It is comfy, but a real faff to get on and off.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 03/11/2020 15:08

In all honesty I dont think either of them seem great. The baby bjorn is known for poor positioning, and the embrace looks like it offers no head support.

I had a close caboo when my son was very little, then an ergobaby 360.

Baby bjorn WAS known for poor positioning. Their new models (such as their new ONE) is now hip healthy

I have the baby bjorn one. I have v dodgy collar bones that easily dislocate and having tried a few it was the most comfortable and I've yet to have a shoulder issue using it.

Thank you for your replies- bit mixed i guess!

@KiriAndLou would be the ideal solution but unfortunately everything like that near me seems to not be happening for the foreseeable future with how things are!

@Letsallscreamatthesistene that was my worry as I kind of want to combine the good elements of both of them really. I think from what I've seen online so far it seems like the baby Bjorn is supportive for baby in the newborn phase but as the material at the bottom can't be widened it becomes less ideal M position once they get around the 5 month mark take it leave depending on baby's size but I have been gifted a second hand ergobaby omni and will just be using that by then I should imagine so tbf only really looking for it the newborn stage though obviously would be nice to get a bit more longevity out of it. Is good that it seems to wear well on the back though!

The embrace does seem like my otherwise perfect solution but with there just being two settings for length and quite a low looking neckline I worry that the head support just won't be what I want it to.
@EisforElephants have you used the embrace with your little one yet at all?

I have been using the ergo embrace for 6 months so far. I really like it. It’s been so comfy and easy to get on and off. I only used the waistband folded over for about 2 weeks as ds was long from birth so wasn’t needed.

I also have the ergo omni 360 for when he’s bigger and that’s a pain in the ass to use so far. I don’t think I will bother until he’s too big for the embrace and will try and use the omni on my back only instead.
The embrace is up to 9kg. He’s 7.4kg at 6 months and pretty tall so I imagine another few months

Have you heard of/seen the Izmi carrier? Lightweight buckle sling and can pick up pretty cheaply. I'm in same situation as you and can highly recommend.

EisforElephants · 05/11/2020 08:12

No not yet (she's still cooking Smile) but my friend has one and it seems to support her daughter's head just fine and the instructions are pretty clear, they have a good video on the website) so I'm not worried. I then have an Omni 360 which I will use outdoors from newborn and when she's a little bigger. Smile

I would try and go to a sling library, or hire then online first before purchasing. More than a sling and babipur both do online hire.

Personally I used a close caboo when tiny (up to 4 months), then an ergo 360 or a tula when older.
