The dummy - how to wean off aged 2?!

I have a very strong willed (almost) 2 year old who LOVES his dummy. He has it at night and now he has it pretty much all day.

He used to be fine at handing it to me if I asked him and then as long as I kept it out of sight he wasn’t bothered. Now more recently he will really whinge if he can’t find it and if I ask him for it he refuses and if I try to take it off him he bites onto it and runs away.

He has it at night and I still have to go in once or twice a night when it comes out and he can’t find it.

Any success stories and allllll the tips and advice welcome on how to get my dummy addict to be dummy free very welcome!!

Tbh its easier just to go cold turkey, throw them all away so you can't give in. You'll have a rough couple of days and nights but it will soon be forgotten. The older he gets the harder it will be to get rid of it

Agree with PP - cold turkey is best. We just said no more dummy and after a couple of rough nights that was it. We did a lot of running round on those first few days so she was tired. She asked for it for a couple of weeks afterwards but it's not been mentioned since.

Ah thank you what age was your daughter?

My son is 2 in a couple of months and he doesnt say much so I'm worried he just won't understand why he can't have the dummy anymore

I cut the tips of the teat off one by one, so he’d find that one was ‘broken’ and he’d put it in the bin. When there was only one left I told him that when it broke there would be no more. As previous folk have said a couple of nights when he took longer to get to sleep and was a bit upset and then he wasn’t bothered.
