...We just don't seem to feel inspired by any toys at the moment!

Please help us by telling us what you couldn't live without at this age, and then we will go and buy it for Christmas... DS simply is not interested in toys!

Thank you! xxx

A bosch workbench. DS adores his and plays with it and the various tools virtually every day.

pointydog · 15/10/2007 17:36

quite large squuezy plastic tellytubby figures.

Also, that toy plastic food with velcro on. Dd2 had a sandwich set that included knife and she thought it was ace.

FA I dont give a monkeys what anyone else has to say about his odd play preferences! but am quite gutted he doesn't play with his lovely Brio set/Duplo/jigsaws/wooden blocks etc all of which I lovingly sourced!
He is also very taken with our hoover and mop - v odd as he never sees me using them! How old is your DS? Mine is 3 in December.

Cars, cars, cars, Playmobil motorbikes and ambulance, even though he was a little too young for them he loved them and still does, jigsaw puzzles - nuts about them, and strangely one of those wooden russian doll things that has smaller ones inside it and it keeps him occupied for quite a while. He loved a pop gun as well, but that was more towards his 3rd birthday - he liked the sound it made.

Just rising 2 now, but really popular the last few months have been:
rainbow sound blocks
rainbow sound blocks
wheelybug
Wow car
Toy pushchair

Panna, I know, I bought quite a few things I loved like trains and a big wooden bus etc. but no interest whatsoever!

Actually now he is just four and he seems more into those type of things, and less into the cables - slightly - I cleared his room out one day and chucked some of the old cabley stuff that was just tangled up and sitting there, it was very cathartic, his room no longer looked like a building site - and he didn't notice they had gone!

So maybe it's a case of growing out of it?
He still makes 'inventions' though, all the time, and loves an electronic circuit kit we got him

I think toddlers just love junk!

gigglewitch · 15/10/2007 20:04

boys - wooden trains and tracks

girl - dolls pram

WorkingClassScum · 15/10/2007 20:18

cars, trucks, diggers, his other toys were pointless because all he loved was the mighty car!

We also used to buy him the Auto Trader magazine, looking through it would keep him occupied for ages.

Pannacotta · 15/10/2007 20:34

FA where you did get the circuit kit from? It sounds ideal!
DS also loves the spare TV aerial leads and phone extensions, perhaps I should just leave these out as toys?!
Cars are also a hit, little wooden ones which go fast if you pull them backwards, if that makes sense, low tech but lots of fun!

Hi Panna, we searched for ages for something he could do himself, but it does need supervision really - he likes it but it is going to be another year or maybe 6 months before he can do it himself totally. Saying that it is for primary schools.
It is a plastic circuit boar with modular plastic bits that snap on with press studs, there is a good instruction book, a loud siren, lightbulbs, switches and resistors etc. Quite educational but if you have someone in your family who understands what they all do it's easier (I don't but my dad does!!)
It was from Yellow Moon catalogue. I ordered it myself not through school etc. Will link for you if poss. Hang on...

here you go

FlightAttendant · 16/10/2007 07:03

sorry board (images of 'circuit pigs' go floating through fa's mind)

LazyLinePUMPKINJane · 16/10/2007 07:25

Well DS is 2 and he also loves his wooden trains. He likes putting the animals on the track and crashing the trains into them

He also loves his little tikes cosy coupe so much that we have to bring it inside so he can be in it more often

MyTwopenceworth · 16/10/2007 07:34

wrapping paper was a big hit at that age, I recall. As were boxes. And the cat's tail. And any bit of my wallpaper they could peel off. Oh, and flushing things down the toilet.

If there was an actual toy they would have liked, well, I never found it.

kindersurprise · 16/10/2007 07:38

Ds loves his bobby car

Every German child has one, they are everywhere. There are loads of different trailers and stuff to go with them. A good addition is the parent handle.

one for the budding fireman

A word of warning though, do not put his best shoes on when he is on the bobby car.

RBH · 16/10/2007 07:46

DD1 was given this shape sorting clock and loves it as do all the kids that come round, from babies to 6 year olds.

bozza · 16/10/2007 08:22

I would say that for DS it was his matchbox sized cars which he absolutely loved and had/has a massive collection. And for DD it was her doll's buggy (£6, ELC) with doll or whatever else in.

bealcain · 16/10/2007 08:24

DS1 is obsessed with anything from in the night garden and bob, pat, sam and roary!

colditz · 16/10/2007 08:28

Train set - given my time again I would buy a wooden one. he got a Thomas one and loved it, but doesn't withstand stamping very well

Piffle · 16/10/2007 08:28

neurosmith music box

Budababe · 16/10/2007 08:35

DS was into cars in a big way. Is now 6 and still plays with them. Has hundreds of them. Still wants more! (Also used to buy him car mags - we were in Bulgaria and could only get German ones - didn't matter!)

His totally best thing at that point was a cleaning trolley with a bucket and brush and mop. Best money I ever spent.

Loved his Fisher Price garage too. Still plays with it.

Budababe · 16/10/2007 08:36

Wooden train set popular too. Bought Ikea one at first and then added both Tesco and Brio bits to it.

mumsville · 16/10/2007 15:13

I got a wooden ELC trainset - is that compatible with brio and thomas the tank engine etc? Anyone know?

swag · 16/10/2007 15:21

DS2's was a food set with a little table top hob picked up on a random visit to Lidl for five whole pounds! It is still played with daily nearly 2 years later.

We have added the ELC tea set, dinner set, microwave and pan set

DD 22 mths does play with the above ut also loves the Happyland people that DS2 wouldn't even look at at that age

kbaby · 16/10/2007 21:06

A elc kitchen

somersetmum · 16/10/2007 21:08

Haven't read the rest of the thread, but wooden train set. He got it when he was 2 and will still play with it now sometimes, at 9. His little sister loves it too.
