Newborn formula milk and upset stomach

My 10day old daughter has always had an upset tummy since birth. At first they said it was down to mucas. Then when I put her down at night she starting being quite sick, and in discomfort so they advise me to start giving her infacol with every feed. This seemed to help the sickness a little.

But for the last 4 days she has awful wind during the day, and from about 6pm she starts stomach cramping, grunting, screaming, and tossing her legs around. I try bicycle legs, winding, massage etc. HV has said to increase her dose of infacol to 2 on her later feeds.

As soon as I put her down, she will be half a sleep and peaceful, and she will be settled and then all of a sudden will whimper in pain, scrunch her legs and have large bouts of diarrhoea. You can see the frustration and discomfort in her face, and hear the outcome (sorry tmi). I then have to change her, and sometimes her whole outfit, which she hates. I then resettle her, and the process starts again. This is about 4-8 times per night in a matter hours. She will then settle for a good sleep.

I asked if changing her formula from Cow and Gate would help, but have been told to keep her on it until Monday by the HV, who just so happens to be on holiday this week. I just hate seeing her in so much pain and discomfort. Or I didn’t know if it was a stomach bug. Up until 5 days ago her stools where quite normal.

I’m going to speak to my midwife and GP, but wonder if anyone has had any similar experiences? Or could offer any advice?

Dniece could only tolerate a special type of sma (comfort maybe?) which was better for her tummy.

My hv was awful so I would take dc to see the gp if I was in your situation.

Also have a friend whose DD had cmpa which gp and hv totally failed to spot. I'm sure some more helpful mumsnetters will be along shortly but in the meantime big hugs op you sound like a lovely mum and congratulations xxxx
