3 week old feeding

Hi all,
My little boy is 3 weeks and 1 day today.
Since last night he has gone from feeding (formula) 3 hourly pretty much on the dot to wanting to be fed between 1.5-2 hourly. He also goes from having 90mls in one feed and then may only have 40mls in another one.
I've read that they can go through a growth spurt at 3 weeks so could it be because of this?
I'm just worried that he might either be getting too much or too little?!
Thanks, Hannah

Sounds like his not really hungry his just snacking. As long as he wasn’t premature you can stretch him four hours in between feeds so he takes a full feed. I gave mine water in between because thirsty rather than hungry don’t know if they still advise this but I believe they need water too and mine are still very much alive !

Hi OP, yes this is normal! He's so tiny still, carry on feeding on demand for a few more weeks before you start trying to get him into a routine.

I would follow his schedule. 3-4 weeks they have a major growth spurt - DS was practically on my breast 24-7.

I formula fed and up til 9 months my baby was 3 hourly in the day (overnight stopped at about 6 months)

He wanted little and often for months.

Went from 40 ml at birth to 120ml by 2 months etc

It's like you wanting a large dinner, then you may have a biscuit

Yes he advice now is feed on demand

And giving a 3 week old baby water instead of a feed sounds bloody dangerous to me. It's made me feel a bit sick

This is totally contrary to advice

Feed on demand is advice now, however much that is

This was never official advice. DS had her first baby nearly 10 years ago, DC had hers over 15 years ago - the official advice was always to feed on demand whether via breastmilk or formula.
