What cup is best for weaning?

I’m starting solids with my 6.5 month DS, and am aware that you’re meant to offer water at every meal. But, I’m totally confused over how to do this! I read that non valve cups are better than valved - is that the case? I’ve also ordered a doidy cup but am thinking that it looks a bit difficult for a 6.5 month old to use. Can anyone advise?

I have a doidy cup a munchkin cup and a traditional sippy cup. The doidy cup is the best out of all three hands down. I help my 7 month with it but he will be drinking out of it himself in no time.

Whatever cup they'll take to! I must have brought every cup on the market and a cheap plastic beaker from Poundland was the one she took to.

I used completely different cups with my 2 children. One I used the tommy tippy spout cup (not sure if that explains it!!) and then the other I used the one with the lid that they push their lips against and drink in a more normal way. They both transitioned to a proper cup at around the same age and were equally successfully at that transition! So from my own experience, just go with what works!

I have a doidy cup, but you’ll have to hold it for him - or at least I do!

I also bought a Tommee Tippee free flow beaker type thing (as much as I loathe tommee tippee products) as i couldn’t actually find any that weren’t valved or whatever. Honestly, my terminology is whack, I hope you understand Grin

My ten month old first tried to dip her hands into the doidy cup as though it were a fingerbowl (which to be fair is how I get her to wash her hands after food) and then tipped it upside down on herself. She did also drink out of it to be fair but I won't be using it with regularity.....

I use Tommee Tippee bottles and think they're really good! Grin I might get one of their free flow beakers if the doidy doesn't work out.

The Tommee Tippee free flow beakers are great. And cheap too! (I have 6... Blush). You offer and hold the beaker for baby, until they figure it out for themselves. I also left it on the tray for baby to experiment with, which helps them figure out what it's for as well.

We have an avent sippy cup and my DD finds it really easy to use. It’s just a silicone flat spout with a slit in it so takes a little effort to get water out but it’s pretty leak proof. Was a bit heavy for her to hold with water in at first but she’s got the knack now (and loves throwing it about 🙈)
