Anyone else seen this article from CV in the Daily Mail? (I would like to stress at this point that I found this via google search and not by buying a copy of the Daily Hatemail). It's a long-winded justification of her 'method'.

It's full of little gems: "For my critics, though, the most emotionally charged complaint relates to me saying that mothers should not cuddle a new baby for more than about ten minutes a day. It makes me seem cold and uncaring, perhaps. But it is a fact of life that brand new babies don't want to be picked up and held. Bless.

...and isn't the whole point about age and weaning mostly about gut maturity, not size?

(Speaking as someone who exclusively breastfed DD2 to six months)

yogimum · 14/10/2007 17:52

the daily mail want your comments on her methods. www.mailonsunday.co.uk/child !!!

It is a fact that the biggest cause of baby deaths in this country occurs when babies sleep in their parents' beds."

That is UTTER BULLOX . In the news today: 9 out of 10 babies who die of cot death have a mum who smoke. I am so pissed off at this level of bloddy, dangerous ignorance, she clearly hasn't got a clue! Somebody shut her up before she causes any more damage...

Cocobear · 14/10/2007 20:44

Poor dear says all the hullabaloo has gotten to her, but "I haven't been reduced to tears yet, either." Clearly, MNers, we haven't been trying hard enough. (Note to CV's lawyers: that was a joke, not a threat.)

BlueberryPancake · 14/10/2007 21:34

I have commented on the website. Let's see if it will be published.

97PercentGingerbread · 15/10/2007 14:39

Have tried to type out a reasoned comment on that page. I have. I've tried and tried. The best I've managed is 'what a load of feckity bollocks'. She'd be better of sticking the babies out in a field and hoping the cast of the fricking Jungle Book moseys on over and gives the them the chance of a half-decent upbringing.

I'm so cross I could spit.

97PercentGingerbread · 15/10/2007 14:39

better off

alycat · 15/10/2007 14:54

BP, I didn't know that fact about 9/10 have mothers who smoke.

I (sadly) know 3 couples who lost a child to cot death (one DS was poss as old as 18 mths - long time ago poor memory) and all of the families smoked both cigarettes and cannabis.

muppetgirl · 15/10/2007 15:03

I have to say that I found a routine saved me, dh and ds so I say go with the flow on that one. What suits one may not suit all but I do object to her calling a baby 'it' and demonising newborns for being 'manipulative.' I don't think the no eye contact thing, forced separation and treating the baby like it's a monster that needs to be controlled would have in any way helped me when I had pnd. How does she cope with mothers with pnd?? If I follwed her method I would have NEVER gone near my baby and, worst of all, thought this was entirely natural....

Just because you have done something for 24 years it doesn't necessarily mean you are automatically
a) the expert
and
b)actually any good at it.
I cannot belive she holds the opinion that not having children doesn't matter. If we were talking about educating children that is entirely different I was a teacher who did her job before and after children and I can honestly say that although I was qualified at both times I did gain a whole different insight into teaching when I became a parent as I saw what it is to not sleep all night because something about your child is upsetting you. She has no experience of the maternal pull that you experience through hormones.

AitchTwoOh · 15/10/2007 15:05

she must've been a maternity nurse as a bright young teen, by the way, if she's done 24 years and is only 41.

muppetgirl · 15/10/2007 15:07

I have commented also -let's see if it appears. I have used muppetgirl as a name...

NoNameToday · 15/10/2007 15:12

Hi BlueberryPancake.

Just to be precise, according to the study the babies who died had a mother who smoked during pregnancy

In the news today: 9 out of 10 babies who die of cot death have a mum who smoke.

The didn't stipulate whether there were any other factors, which were even more pertinent

We should look at all the factors, not just take the little parts that suit our prejudices.

8ome of the ten may have had pre existing heart conditions or other serious contributary factors malformations/illnesses.

We do not know and we should not judge until we do, and even then, do we have the right?

Dropdeadfred · 15/10/2007 15:22

41??? really? she's had a hard life then!!

Kewcumber · 15/10/2007 15:28

I'm 42 - please tell me I've aged better than CV!

IntergalacticWarlock · 15/10/2007 15:33
