Weaning baby - what do I need?

My DS is now 6 months and I really need to start weaning ASAP! I've got a highchair, lots of bibs and a hand blender to make purees.

I need to get bowls and spoons too - how many of each would you buy and is that all the utensils you need at this stage? The Bamboo stuff looks good but it's very £££!

Anything else?!

I just bought Ikea plates, bowls and cutlery. I did blw with my first and tried puree with my second but both DD2 and myself preferred Blw. You will also need a dust pan and brush and a good mop. The 1-2 spray mops are good.

Or a dog.... Although ours won't clear up banana!

All I have is little bowls, and baby weaning spoons (which fit into little mouths!). I also have bibs and a highchair. I used my normal kitchen blender, but in reality I only needed it for a few weeks because it didnt take long for DS to be able to have well mashed stuff (which is a bit more lumpy). Every baby is different though.

One thing I would recommend is a weaning food cube tray. That way you can make a batch of something, freeze it, then defrost one cube at a time. Saves you having to cook something everyday, and good when you know you'll be short on time and wont be able to cook anything.

Something like this; www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/d6707.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwuL_8BRCXARIsAGiC51DUHi-AOCtu7KcpQGjJJM_NHJvweQsazhzsBFtRskV8QXLIolqLVIEaAhlVEALw_wcB

Unless you're planning to use pouches, then you dont need that at all!

Thanks. Is it worth buying those bowls with suction pads or not really?

The patience of a saint.

Plenty of little bowls with lids for freezer. A nutribullet type device. A bibado bib or 2. Suction bowls for highchair. Different weaning cups for trying water with meals. Empty your freezer so there's room for your pots & room for frozen veg & fruit bags.

I did buy bowls with suction bottoms, just cheap ones from amazon as opposed to the bamboo ones. They still work well and she is nearly 2 now. I also bought non slip mats for when we go out for dinner so she can scoop her food and not push the bowl off the table. Other than that, just spoons, bibs (the tommie tippee ones that catch the food are good), lots of face cloths that you can throw in the washing machine for cleaning her up so you arent going through heaps of wipes (I try to be environmentally conscious). I did purees for a bit, but she preferred solid food, so did more blw. Also, I bought little tubs that can hold snacks for days out.

A mat for under the table and a well-positioned hoover.

And watch some gagging vs choking videos first and know what to do in event of actual choking.

I also have a bowl with a sucky bottom. Not been particularly useful yet, but I think it will in the future when DS can take a bit more control.

IMHO all you really need are a couple of those massive wipe clean bibs. Everything else is optional but those are not.... already ruined a few outfits! I also have a silicone mat-bowl type thing, which is quite good as it is hard to throw off the table. The little blw spoons are nice too, although my ds doesn’t use them as intended yet, and for blw you could just put the stuff on the clean table or high chair tray which works just as well. If you’re doing purees, some ice cube trays or tiny containers are useful for freezing extras when you make too much of something. Also if you don’t have a muffin tray these can be helpful for baking healthy muffin-shaped food or fritter type things...

I have the bamboo stuff and it's lovely but any suction bowl would work just as well. I like sectioned plates though for when he will start eating proper meals

We are starting soon too! I’ve got a set of munchkin bowls and spoons from Amazon (less than a tenner).

For purées I’ll be holding the bowl and finger food I was just going to put on the highchair tray directly. Will get some suction bowls etc when he’s older.
