Tongue tie advice

I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance.
Has anyone had a baby with tongue tie that still gained weight and fed well, but feeding was painful?
My little one is feeding and gaining weight but the agony for me is unreal. It even hurts a little with nipple shields, although it stops them getting damaged.
She's booked in to the tongue tie clinic in a weeks time, I'm just hoping someone out there has experienced this and found the snip really helped?!

My DS had his tongue tie cut at 4 months. It was picked up late, so for 4 months, I had an incredibly gassy, upset baby that only fed for 5mins at a time. He did gain weight though.

After the snip, there wasn't a sudden change but, yes, things definitely improved after a coupleof wedks (once he learned the wonders of using a tongue that wasn't anchored down). I'm glad we got it done.

@FTMF30 Awh I'm glad to hear it helped!
Yes she is quite gassy and sicky after feeds, sometimes just projectile vomiting the milk straight up. So I'm hoping it helps settle that down too! 🤞

Yes though the pain did actually stop before we got the appt. The main reason we had it snipped was to try to stop the vomiting.

Both mine have had tongue ties. First had the snip (so to speak!) and took a few days to readjust but fed much better and never had any more problems. With the second we had it looked at by a private lactation consultant who said that it wasn’t such a bad one, and that if I was ok to fed through the painful bit it’d likely be ok. He’s fine, putting on weight, and feeding stopped hurting I’d say probably around six weeks.

@miriam101 oh gosh I don't think I can feed through the pain! Without the shields I had a cut on my nipple within the first 12 hours 😩😞 hoping the day she's booked into clinic they will cut it there and then 🤞

Definately helped my baby feeding but as someone else said gradually as they learn to feed a certain way and it takes a bit for them to realise they can move their tounge more. Procedure was done the same day he was assessed.

I paid privately to get my son’s tongue tie cut when he was 9 days old. The lady came to my house and snipped it on my living room floor.

The breast feeding was fine for 4 days but then the pain started on day 5 and by day 7 my nipples were shredded and bleeding, the pain was excruciating and I was crying through every feed.

I rand the TT lady on day 8 and she came round the next day.

There was an immediate improvement in his feeding - the pain was completely gone.

We did have to have a few sessions of cranial osteopathy to address residual feeding problems as a result of the tongue tie, but then everything was fine for a good few months.

When he was 4 months old his weight started to plateau and it turned out his tongue tie had reattached so he had to have it done again. Thankfully though the feeds hadn’t been painful and if it wasn’t for his weight issues I would never have known.

Thanks ladies! Had a call this morning to move her appointment forward, it's now Friday, thankfully! :)
