Does this worry anyone? It worries me but hope someone less anxious and more level headed might offer some words of wisdom! www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/oct/19/bottle-fed-babies-swallow-millions-microplastics-day-study

The scale of microplastic exposure presented here may seem alarming, but the real-world effects on infant health require further investigation.”

Prof Oliver Jones, at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, noted the babies’ exposure levels were estimates, not measurements: “We should not be making parents feel bad for using plastic bottles. However, this study illustrates that the microplastics problem is likely much bigger than we think [and] something we need to start really getting to grips with.

Yes plastics are bad, but I do not see a reason to panic. Climate change and stupidity are much more likely to kill us than plastic in bottles.

Near the end of the article the researchers offer some ideas to reduce the amount of micro plastics that get into a feed. If I still was formula feeding I think I’d switch to their suggestions.

There are (very thick) glass bottles around, possibly by NUK, which might be a good alternative.

Does anyone have any suggestions for sippy cups that aren’t plastic? If anything, those get shaken about a lot more!

I get that there are microplastics in everything, incl fish and some tap waters, but this idea that they shed from the actual bottle/cup each time is interesting.

Now I’m really worried that I could have harmed my child by bottle feeding Sad

LongJohnGlitter · 25/10/2020 00:36

@atvh I didn't mean to cause undue stress by posting this! I worry so much about so many different things, bit not this too much. I'm pretty sure I was bottle fed with plastic bottles, not glass, as we're all my siblings and we're all fine. Most kids are fed using plastic bottles and so far...it might not be perfect but it's fine. I have ordered tommee tippee glass bottles and I'm not going to worry about the way I've fed my DS so far. Take care x

We have used the nuk glass for anyone interested and they have seem well made, have broken and wash well. Although baby rarely used them as mainly breastfed!

However we are now using same glass bottle part with nuk beaker lid instead of the teat as compatible.

I’m going to get a stainless steel larger beaker thing soon for out and about. I think sigg looked good price wise on amazon.
