Nearly 3 year old's speech

For the longest time my son had quite a big speech delay. All of a sudden he's come on in leaps and bounds and he can pretty much talk normally.

However I've noticed that when talking to new people (for example a kid at a park, the assistant and clarkes) he just completely speaks jargan. He acts like he's saying full sentences to them but honestly I'm used to recognising words but there is none there it's just complete babble.

Is this normal?

My grand daughter is nearly 3 and is still a little behind with her speech but she loves chatting gibberish to other people. I believe she hears all of the adults around her chatting a load of unknown words (with words she knows in between) and basically she is doing the same.
The conversation with the neighbour the other day went something like this...Babble babble ‘sandwich’ babble babble ‘troll’ babble babble ‘hide and seek’ followed by lots more gibberish and ‘bye’.

@MellowMelly yeah that would make sense as he is talking really fast when he says the randomness. Whereas at home he is talking slowly and making sense!

My DS is nearly 3 and does this a lot. I often get 'mummy, babble babble babble shoes, babble babble nee-naw.' His shoes have fire engines on them. he can do proper words and sentences, it just goes to pot a bit f he is trying to speak quickly.
