Hello, my DC has their first cold at the grand age of 8 months.. what can I do to make things more pleasant for everyone please? We’ve done calpol before bed but what else could I be doing? Many thanks 😊

Saline spray for nose, plenty of Calpol, snuffle babe rub (check what age they can use it from), tilt the head end of the cot up.

Thanks! We’ve tilted the cot already. Snufflebabe was also mentioned by a friend so will get some today 👍

I found there's not an awful lot you can give them at that age, despite the fact it can really knock them for six.
I remember telling everyone though, even strangers who didn't care, and taking photos of my brave little soldier and generally fussing over them.
If they're congested a steamy bathroom can help.
Hope your little one feels better soon.

Humidifyer in their room to help loosen any thick snot (same principle as being in a steamy room with them), and calpol plug ins. Benelyn also do cough mixture for 3+ months. Calpol for any sore throats.

😂 there’s definitely a lot of fussing going on here! Thanks for the advice.

Calpol do a plug in which helps to clear the congestion, we use it overnight still for my 6 year old and it's fab. Most big supermarkets sell them.

I found the saline drops good as it made them sneeze and got out some snot for a bit of relief for them

ScarMatty · 18/10/2020 13:23

Honestly, nothing really.

We must've spent shit loads on calpol plug ins/dehumidifiers/medicine etc and the only thing that works a little is saline drops.

I've learnt not to worry too much now

Another vote for the calpol plug in from me. It's expensive to buy the tablet regularly but works a treat.
