I keep on coming back to the same worry about the flu

We are planning to put our baby on nursery 3 days a week In Jan - he’ll be 11 months.

Frankly, I’m terrified of whqt he could catch there alongside Covid, given he won’t have had his 12 month vaccinations yet or a flu vaccination. I spoke to the GP and they said they don’t offer it unless the baby is vulnerable, and basically said if there was no budget they’d vaccinate all babies over 6 months.

I’m shared he could catch the flu AND Covid, as per the news. I’m just scared really. It’s my understanding that they choose to vaccinate toddlers at 2ish because that’s when they usually go to nursery, which makes me feel as though it wouldn’t be a good idea for him to go in without it.

What has been your experience with young babies in nursery?

Toddlers are vaccinated because they are super spreads of the flu. It’s not to protect them but to protect elderly and vulnerable people. Is fairly rare for young children to catch covid and with larger numbers of people being vaccinated against the flu this year and enhanced hygiene and face masks the flu is less likely to be a major issue this year.

I mean this in a caring way, you’ve have a baby in the middle of a pandemic and you seemly overly worried about your baby catching a range of illnesses - I think you need to speak to your GP again but this time about your anxiety surrounding these issues.
