My kids have to be BLEEDING and an arm bent in the wrong direction before I took them to A&E....

... and still I was reluctant. AND, once, I even went to bingo and got a bit tiddly rather than take one of my children to A&E after they broke their elbow . AND another time, one of my children fell off my bed (after using it as a trampoline), cut their lip/mouth open and it was only because I thought it was a bit wide that I took her to the doctors for some butterfly stitches . AND, yet again, another of my children fell over a football whilst playing, he was lead on the pavement sobbing and I told him not to be so soft and to get up. We had to go to A&E for this one as we thought he might have a broken kneecap

I believe that kids should be allowed to run about, fall, hurt themselves and shouldn't be wrapped up in cotton wool. Let's call it "character building"

Are you a panicky parent or am I just so laid back I'm almost horizontal? And what the frig did we do before NHS Direct? I can honestly say that I've never phoned them. At all. Ever!!!!

*I was just discussing this on another forum so I am not taking the piss out of anyone, OK?

I would take my children to A&E or ring NHS direct whenever I felt it necessary, regardless of whether they are bleeding or have obviously broken bones. As it happens have only (so far) been to A&E once, when dd split her lip open. Was clearly something that needed to be looked at and I didn't hesitate for a moment. Have friends who have been much more often, but never on a whim or for any reason other than that they felt that their children's injuries/health needed to be urgently assessed and treated.

I don't think non-atendance at A&E is necessarily a badge to be worn with pride. You make it sound almost as if it's something to be proud of.

Piffle · 12/10/2007 21:29

lucky it's broken bones and not meningitis or heart failure

lucykate · 12/10/2007 21:29

you sound evil

Don't feed the troll ladies

GibbonInARibbon · 12/10/2007 21:30

trip trap

mrsmerton · 12/10/2007 21:30

I do think there are parents who phone/visit A&E for the slightest thing (my SIL , for one)
But...your kids sounded pretty hurt! There's a thin line between 'toughening them up' and being mean!

pooka · 12/10/2007 21:30

Excatly Piffle. Think is ridiculous to have arbitrary criteria involving such things. If your child is ill or injured, then why on earth wouldn't you avail yourself of the service?

GibbonInARibbon · 12/10/2007 21:30

x post COV

doyouwantfrieswiththat · 12/10/2007 21:30

have you got so many children you could lose a few without noticing then?

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 12/10/2007 21:31

or asthma attack, broken thumbs, split heads, d+v in young baby, etc etc.

pooka · 12/10/2007 21:31

Sorry
Am crap at the troll thing. Get drawn in every bloody time.

fingerwoman · 12/10/2007 21:32

it's ok, when she's an old lady and calls her kids to say she's fallen over and broken her hip we know what they'll say Lol

orangehead · 12/10/2007 21:34

yeh sounds neglectful. I once heard a story(not certain if true) of someone who got they dd taken of them by ss as she had broken her leg and they had not taken her to a and e for 3 days. So maybe u should try being a bit more vertical

doyouwantfrieswiththat · 12/10/2007 21:35

broken hips are character building ...

TotalChaos · 12/10/2007 21:35

good point fingerwoman

um would now be a good time to vouch for Tallulah, as somebody I know in real life . She's not a troll ladies and not even a heartless bitch, just has made a few erm bad calls as to how hurt a whingeing child actually was.

GibbonInARibbon · 12/10/2007 21:41

Are you seriously saying that OP was true???

I feel a bit sick

Tallulah72 · 12/10/2007 21:41

Thanks to TotalChaos for defending my honour there

I'm actually quite shocked that you all jumped to the conclusion that I'm a troll, a negligent parent, have so many children that I could possibly lose a couple and that you seriously think that I wouldn't allow medical attention to be administered in a serious case

I just love the way that you can all pop over to another forum at times, join in a conversation with me and then jump on me like this. If I was a troll do you really think I'd use my "normal" log in? I was only trying to liven up an otherwise boring Friday night. Sorry if you don't "get" my sense of humour!!!!
