Basically my baby has reflux it doesn't bother me if he brings a bit of milk up the bit that's worrying is when he's on his back and he makes sounds like he can't breath I have been in contact with the GP and they prescribed him with infant gaviscon which he had to have 6 sachets a day to help control it and it did work really good he stopped with his bad breathing and wasn't sick much but then I stopped them as I thought he might be okay but a week or 2 after he started with the breathing so I got some more off the GP and it's been about 2 weeks now and the breathing hasn't stopped and he's sick a lot it's like there not working anymore I've tried to contact the doctor and every time I try book online or ring up there full I'm trying at 8am when they open it's like they don't realise he's a 6 month old baby and it's annoying me does anyone know what could help control his reflux and help calm the breathing?

The breathing issues sounds like it could be silent reflux but you must get it check out. Reflux can be developmental or it can be a sign of allergy. There is medication for reflux but I think the only one now available is only licensed for over 1s so it can only be prescribed by a paediatrician.

I feel your struggles. My firstborn had severe silent reflux. As a newborn he would drink 20-60ml at a time, he would constantly by wriggling his belly, he had terrible eczema and our GP didn't diagnose the reflux after several visits. In fact, one visit they asked if he needed a poo! I felt so insulted.
We ended up in A+E with so much vomiting and high temp. The wonderful paediatrician diagnosed with a dairy intolerance, and reflux. We saw the same paediatrician for over a year. My boy didn't have dairy for 2years and we worked with an NHS dietician - they were so supportive.
My boy didnt sleep at all through the night so for 18months we lived on 4 hours of sleep a night - on a good night!

Our son took medication that is usually for adults. When he turned 2yrs, he went on the milk ladder, slowly introducing dairy into his diet. He is just about to turn 4yrs, he eats all dairy - including ice-cream and has no reflux.

This is only our story, and each child is unique and if you can get a referral to a paediatrician who specialises in reflux, they are a source of great advice and much-needed support.

Thank you both I appreciate the feedback
I have finally managed get hold of a doctor and they've prescribed him with some medicine so I'm hoping it will work but I will definitely be looking into the reflux specialist in case it is silent reflux or to do with allergies

DS has reflux and brings up lots of milk then dropped 5 centiles so I know how worrying it can be. We were prescribed omeprazole which took a few weeks to get the dose right and carobel to thicken the feed and it was a total game changer! Reflux reduced so much and weight built back up. Might be worth a chat with the GP.

Hi

I have a 10 week old baby girl and currently breastfeeding. At around 6 weeks she began to have problems breastfeeding crying refusing to latch on or take a bottle of expressed milk. I was really concerned with her weight as she was missing 2-3 feeds in a 24hr period. When I went for our 6 week check up the doctor seemed to think it was reflux and prescribed gaviscon and omperazole. The gaviscon was a nightmare to give so I gave up and continued with the omperazole which worked for two weeks then suddenly we were back to refusing feeds and screaming at the breast. I have reintroduced the gaviscon which I think works but feel she is now experiencing pain in her tummy.
Has anyone experienced this and have advise of what to try?
