We have recently tried sleep training our 8 month old, thought it was going well as finally had a couple of nights where she slept through but have gone backwards again since...I am writing this after being woken up at 11:30....it is now 00:50 😩 she is still putting up a fight, she has had calpol in case it was her teeth! No 2 nights are ever the same, we put her to bed and just never know what’s going to happen! Is anyone else like this?! Please someone tell me there’s light at the end of the tunnel! One tired and frustrated mamma!! 😭

8 month sleep regression?

Mine's 2.5yo and we've had periods of really inconsistent sleep. It's hard going because you never know when you'll get woken or how long for. It probably got better at about 1yo for us.

My dd didn't sleep through until she was in yr1. Tried everything! She just wouldn't sleep.

It’s normal for some children to wake and need their parents up to 7 years old. 8 months is tiny, I think you need to adjusted your expectations. Nurofen is better than calpol for teething and you can use anbesol liquid too. Even with pain med teething can still keep them up.

She has slept through though, night before last she went to bed at 6pm and didn’t hear anything from her until 6am...so she can settle and sleep through but then last night was awake for 2 hours from 11:30-2:30! Days like this I wish I drank coffee!

Just because she has done it previously doesn’t mean she can do it now though.

11:30-1:30..see lack of sleep affecting my brain!

I agree it’s shit. My 14 months old is teething but even without she wakes several times a night for milk.

I hear you. Last night we moved our 6.5 month out of her Snuzpod next to us and into her cot in her own room. Half hourly wake ups until we just had to let her cry at 4.00am. Not the kind of parenting I wanted to do at all. Feels like there will never be an end to these broken nights.

She's actually sleeping really well for her age. Please don't let her cry if that's what you mean by sleep training. She's not even a year old and she's learning to sleep. Some babies at her age are still waking for feeds.

You left a 6 month old to cry?

Ours is 7 and he’s slept through occasionally but would usually wake at 4 AM for a feed and only settle after that if In bed with us.

This week he’s had a bit of a cold so he’s been waking up at 2 AM ready to party and it takes ages to get him back to sleep.

There are “experts” and sleep consultants but ultimately what they seem to aim for is only waking up for 1 feed or 1 time which is what ours are doing. Time will hopefully help

Sound alike she had too much sleep the night before and isn't tired tbh.

peach1234 · 15/10/2020 12:53

I think this is completely normal I'm afraid, we just lowered our expectations and now a night our DD sleeps through is great and if she wakes up a couple of times it's a good night then we just deal with the difficult nights and hope eventually she'll just grow out of it. she's nearly 2.
