Ever since she started solids at 6 months (it's all very healthy stuff, lots of breastmilk too) she barley ever poos, every so many days she will do a smallll one. I will always check to see if shes ready to have a proper one, its normally every week or two and I'll have to assist her by doing the bycicle movement, wiping her with a baby wipe to stimulate her to push and pushing her legs to her chest. If the nappies on she wouldnt even try to push it out without assistance? Is anyone else's baby like this

does she drink water with each meal? Id definitely give health visitor a call.

Is there a chance you are encouraging the poo out before she's ready? What if you waited?

Warsawa31 · 14/10/2020 20:38

I think as well if you stimulate her to poo she may be relying on that - it's not a long term solution. Hope everything is ok with her OP I'm sure it is, weaning is a big change

How often does she poo? And how often did she used to poo? I've got 2 toddlers who were bf and it wasn't unusual for my second to go 3-4 days between poos when wearing.

Without a timeframe it's quite concerning that you are deciding when she should poo - because it sounds like you have a problem.

A friends baby was like this. As a PP said prune juice was good for him and got things moving on their own.

If it only stated with solids I don't think it's as drastic as some have said. Yes it can be concerning but she's been on solids for like a month. Still speak to your GP. Both my nephews had this problem and both but on medication for it.

@pinksparkleunicorns

I'm quite surprised by the replies on here.

Weaning is a big change for their bodies.

I was told when they are that young it's normal to go a week without any pooing. Two weeks would be a concern.

I'm no medic though, so worth going to the health visitor or gp to check.

I wouldn't freak out though, I know lots of mums who had the same issue with little ones of a similar age.

You're not doing anything wrong mama, don't fret.

That’s only for exclusively bf babies when they start eating food its very different.

Honestly why would you want to train your baby to pop in a nappy if you can help it! as PP said read up about elimination communication. You could try putting your DD to sit on a potty at each nappy change, or at certain times of day if she has more of a routine about when she poops. If she doesn't want to soil herself in a nappy, it is counterproductive to train her to do this now, then try to train her out of it in a year.

newmum234 · 14/10/2020 22:22

My FF baby (just turned 6 months, no solids yet) went through a phase of only having a bowel movement every 3-4 days a few weeks ago. He’s now back to his usual once every two days. Could it just be a phase OP? As others have said, switching a baby who’s only ever had milk onto solids must be a huge change for their bodies!

doireallyneedaname · 14/10/2020 23:33

What do you mean her “bum is open” - if you’re taking her nappy off every time she’s trying to do it then you could be stopping her from doing it by distracting her! If you leave her alone what happens?

SweetpeaOrMarigold · 16/10/2020 17:59

Did you get any advice @alesha123445?

GrumpyHoonMain · 16/10/2020 18:20

Sounds like she’s gotten used to your interference. She must be left to poo herself otherwise you could end up with a 4-8 year old with severe continence problems.

jessstan1 · 16/10/2020 18:31

It doesn't mean your baby is constipated. Not everyone poos every day (I didn't); she would let you know if she was in pain or uncomfortable and would strain.

Have a word at your doctor's surgery if you are really concerned but I can assure you it is not that unusual.

Rubyroost · 16/10/2020 18:31

Give her pureed prunes, Pears, peaches etc to get her bowels moving. Stop helping her, she will get used to it.
