DD still napping!

My six month old DD went up for her third and final nap of the day at 4.20pm. I was hoping she’d just do 40 minutes until 5pm, then I’d keep her up for 2 to 2.5 hours and put her to bed at around 7pm.

But it’s now 6.15pm and she’s still asleep! Does this mean I will have to keep her up for 2-2.5 hours from whenever she wakes - which could potentially mean she’s going to bed at 9pm or even later?

Help!

Unless shes poorly, I would have woken her at 5ish to set up bedtime.

Id just leave her now. You might be lucky, she might be down for the night!

I really don’t like to wake a sleeping baby, but perhaps there are some exceptions to that rule? She finally woke at 6.30pm so it’s looking like an 8.30pm bedtime!

I also would have woken her up. At that age, I didn't let her sleep past 5pm. Now I don't let her sleep past 3pm and haven't since she dropped the third nap at 8 months.

I hope she goes/went down ok tonight. Hopefully she's just having a sleepy day and that'll be her for the night.

Thanks - I will know for next time!

What’s the shortest gap you would leave between the last nap and going to bed - two hours?

The only time I ever wake my son is the last nap to set bedtime up!

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 13/10/2020 19:03

@noonoo32 it'd depend on the age of the baby. My son is 6.5 months and its about a 3hr gap between waking from the last nap to my son going to sleep for the night.

I think I’m going to try for two hours, so hopefully she’ll go to bed at 8.30!

I think it totally depends on the baby. I never wake mine up from a nap. If she's tired and wants to sleep I let her. Our bedtime is slightly flexible between 6.30 and 7.30 pm . I never had a problem getting her to sleep after a long afternoon nap. Might just require a longer bedtime story.

She did go to bed at 8.30 but seems to be having a very disrupted sleep - she’s woken a few times, cried for about 20 seconds then gone back to sleep again! I wonder what it means - I hope she’s okay!
