Baby changing facilities

What are the changing facilities like in your local area?

In the small town I live I find the they are very poor, most places just have a very basic fold down table that is nowhere near good enough for an older toddler still in nappies.

Anyone else finding facilities inadequate :-(

I’ve noticed that most changing tables say they are suitable for up to 10/11/12kg which seems mad. DS is 2 and about 13kg and is the only toddler of around his age who I know that is out of nappies!

My local village used to be terrible for changing facilities. None of the cafes even have a changing table, and the library doesn’t even have a loo! The public toilets on the high street have recently been revamped and they do at least have a nice new changing table. It does say ‘suitable for up to 11kg’ but it’s the kind that is built into a unit on the side so I’d be less worried about using it! (Tried to put a nappy on DS on it earlier as I knew he’d fall asleep in the car... he refused so now I’m sat in the car playing wee wee roulette 🙄)

Yeah, 10kg limit is nowhere near enough for most toddlers.

If I go into the city I can find more substantial changing facilities but in the local town all the change tables are flimsy fold down tables only really suitable for a baby.

I used to do the changes standing up rather than risk the rickety table with my massive 2yo. DD generally only did wees out and about so it wasn't too horrendous.

I used to changed DD1 on the floor as I was worried she would crawl or run away.

It's a bad state of affairs though when mums are having to resort to changing on the floor :-(

In some places in my local small town the changing facilities are a changing mat to put on the floor; I often do a car nappy change as so many are grim or a bit dangerous.

I change my big toddler over my lap now, he doesn't like it but it's better than trying to use a flimsy fold down table.

Is this your second thread on the same topic..?

DappledThings · 08/10/2020 21:15

I did standing up changes as soon as they were able to stand freely. But I also assumed that most weight limits were very much erring on the side of caution and could probably have about 50% more added on!

EmJay19 · 08/10/2020 23:35

DS still only 10kg so weight limit fine but sometimes I swear the change tables have little bits of shit on the sides grosses me out!
