Need some help. We started potty training my 2 year old back in April he was amazing at it hardly any accidents. But the last 2 weeks he seems to do poos in his pants some times we can change him 4 or 5 times day! We have tried everything putting him on the toilet every hour, taking toys away, using treats as rewards nothing seems to work. I don’t mind the odd accident but when I’m
Changing him 5 times day when we never had a problem before. If you ask him where does poo go he says in the toilet. He isn’t scared of going as he goes in his pants. Any help or advice would be wonderful please

Has anything in his environment changed? Has anything in childcare changed? Anything at home?

Hmmm, I was going to suggest treats, but I see you've tried that.

You could maybe put him back in nappies for a bit? No fuss, no negativity, just calmly say we're going to do this for a bit because you keep pooing in your pants. He might decide he wants to stay in pants.

I know it sounds counterintuitive but could he be constipated? That could be why he’s wary of the toilet and it’s coming out in smaller bits, could also be overflow poop. Worth trying some lactulose for a week and seeing if it helps?

Nothing’s changed at home or Nursey.

I’ve suggested going back to nappies and he’s doesn’t want to also don’t want him getting used to wearing nappies again when he’s been out of them for 6 months.

I don’t think he’s constipated as when he goes he doesn’t struggle and not in pain.

It’s like he can’t be bothered or not fussed about it as when he does it he just says I’ve done a poo in my pants he isn’t upset about it or embarrassed like he doesn’t care that he’s done it

Just because he isn't struggling or in pain doesn't mean few isn't constipated. He may have a big lump of hard poo in his bowel and softer stuff manages to get around it. Take him to a GP.

Having the hard lump would mean the nerves around there are no longer communicating when he needs to go as everything is too stretched out, that's why he won't know he needs to go until it has already happened. Google encoporesis
