Bed wetting & pullups HELP PLS

Just looking for some advise as i just dont know what to do for the best, my son is 6 and is in year one and is still bed wetting every night.
We decided to remove the pullups 3 weeks before going back to school at the advise of the school nurse who hoped we would d have a good transition.
The first week or so went well.. A few dry nights but its gradually gone back to full wet beds and he has no urgency to get out of the wet.
I have to drag him out of bed despite it being saturated with urine.
I am thinking now for his own sake, my sanity and my washing machine should i just go back to pull ups or will it carry on for even longer?

Thanks

We’re waiting it out. I cant see how it help to wash sheet every night and your son lose sleep. I think after 7 the NHS will refer to look at bed wetting alarms etc. But received wisdom is that these are just too hard for younger children to co-operate with. Maybe try ringing ERIC (continence charity).

Me and dad live separately and dad is pushing for no pullups because our son isnt losing sleep but hes going to end upnwith sores as hes happy to sleep through in a wet bed.
Obviously it doesnt effect dad as much as he isnt there as much (he isnt washing bedding everyday).
I'll give that a try thankyou!

@Flowers94 same here, my son is the same age as yours and we have kept the pull-ups. He just hasn’t had that part of his brain mature yet so it’s just a waiting game

Oh and limiting drinks to just with his dinner although this sometimes work but mostly doesn’t

Flowers94 · 06/10/2020 09:52

He has asthma so I don't want to limit his drinks i dont feel thats right for him, i think it might be time for the pullups to return!!

I have the same problem with my 4yo, at the moment we wake her up at midnight to take her to the bathroom. A friend has suggested increasing the amount she drinks in the daytime to teach her bladder to hold more, not sure how that will go but she's a nurse so I'm going to give it a go, I've nothing to lose, lol.

Ask for referral to school nurse. GP won't be interested and will refer you to school nurse anyway. We ended up with a bed wetting alarm for my six year old. It took about 6 weeks, but did work and she has been dry ever since (about 6 months).

She was the same, would wet the bed and just sleep in it, every single night she was drenched.

I did not have much faith in the alarm, but it did work.

My son is 7 and still in pull ups. some nights he's totally dry, about 2-3 a week I'd say. Other times he wakes up with a sodden pull up. We tried going without and he just ended up sleeping in a sodden bed! So we are waiting it out, rightly or wrongly (he's my first so I don't really know whether this is the right thing or not!).

I think after age 7 the GP will seriously listen to your concerns. Before that age there is a good chance they just need more time to mature, it's a hormone thing.
I don't know how it works or how keen GPs are to prescribe but I took amytriptaline for unrelated nerve pain and when I read the leaflet it gave instructions on the dosage for bedwetting in over 7s. It comes in liquid form as well as pills so may be something to investigate ?

I think trying to get him dry at a transition time (going back to school) might not be the best time. If he isn’t waking up even though he is wet, shows he is not ready. Allowing him to sleep in wet bedding is not kind for his skin. I’d put the pull ups on.

uhohbrusselsprouts · 06/10/2020 09:59

Oh, we also had to make her drink more - 1.2 litres a day to stretch the bladder. That was hard as she didn't want to do it, but bladder size did increase.

Heartofglass12345 · 06/10/2020 10:01

I would go back to pull ups. We had to at least twice for my now 7 year old when he was 4 and 5. He still wets occasionally but not enough to need them again. Like you said he's going to end up sore Sad and it doesn't sound like he can control it either

MyNameForToday1980 · 06/10/2020 10:29

I wet the bed as a child until I was 8 or so, and I sincerely wish my parents had just popped me in a pullup to save the annoyance, loss of sleep and embarrassment.

Flowers94 · 06/10/2020 10:44

Thankyou so so much for all of your advice! Definitely going back to pulls up and will inform the school nurse that we've got them back and when hes seven i can raise concerns if he still isnt dry!
