Nutramigen for CMPI

Hey all,

My four week old had recently been put on nutramigen and infant gaviscon for CMPI and reflux and does seem more settled. However, the milk is so thin she’s dribbling loads of it out. I’m loathe to add thickener incase it unsettles her again but was wondering if any other parents who’ve dealt with CMPI had tried anything with success? Other than that, I’m just hoping she gets used to it? I thought about trying preemie teats but don’t know it that would cause her to swallow more air.

Thanks everyone xxx

There is a really good CMPA Facebook page. It might be worth asking in there.

Thank you!

Hi @peonies1988 - DD was on Similac Alimentum and it seemed to be a normal formula consistency; not noticeably thin. Might be worth a try? DD did really well on it and actually liked it, even though it smelled really weird Grin

Actually . . . has your DD been checked for tongue-tie? Bit odd that she's dribbling . . .

Hi @RedPandaFluff thanks I will ask about Alimentium. Yes she’s had it snipped! X

When my first ds was put on nutramigen for CMPA he still was unsettled and whilst there was a bit of difference he was still not happy.
We eventually moved on to Neocate prescription formula and upped the dose of omeprazole for silent reflux and he did eventually start to be more settled and symptoms calmed down a lot.

@peonies1988 you might want to have her tongue checked again - apparently it can reattach! I was aghast when I heard this, bad enough putting her through it once Sad

I use mam anti colic bottles. You can ask to be prescribed carobrel thickener. Dd is now on neocate which is also thin and foul as she developed a soya allergy as well. We only use it as a top up feed.

Stick with it, Nutramigen is wonderful. My daughter put on it at 6 weeks for CMPA. She had reflux to and was a very sicky baby but she got used to it. She had Ranitidine and Omeprazole too. She's a teenager now and doing well. She hasn't grown out of the CMPA but its a family trait and there's so many alternatives now. Good luck

My dd was prescribed Neocate for her CMPA, which is also really thin and made her reflux worse. We were given Carobel to thicken it and it worked wonders. It might be worth a try.

Desperate need of help and advice….
currently have a 4 week old son who is just so unsettled after feeding (formula fed)
hiccups
spit ups ( sometimes)
congested
so windy 💨
grunting
red rash / spots on face and chest ( told acne by gp)
poops a lot ( not runny just always pooping)
gulps his milk down quickly
makes squeaking nosies
horsey breathing

spoke to gp who mentioned silent reflux and was prescribed infant gaviscon but I feel like this is making the milk thicker so not spit up however his poo is like a paste ( still pooping everyday though) rash is still there goes and will appear in new place, I’m wondering if he has a possible milk allergy as you can tell every day is a struggle and he’s so Moany and just all round unsettled…been to osteopath who mentioned tension in his neck and throat…. Just trying everything and anything at this moment……..
