6 month baby girl - what should I dress her in?

I know this sounds silly, but DD was a spring/summer baby and now the weather's getting colder, I don't have a clue how to dress her.

Would a long-sleeved plain sleepsuit with trousers and a jumper or cardigan on top work? The reasoning with the sleepsuit is that she won't have to wear socks as the feet are built in - I know babies tend to lose socks really easily. Also if her jumper rides up then her tummy is still covered underneath.

I've tried her in leggings but they seem to slip down and pull the nappy with them - what am I doing wrong? Blush

I'd then add a padded winter jacket plus a woolly hat for when we go out.

At night I'm thinking just a sleepsuit plus a short-sleeved vest underneath.

Any other suggestions?

Repeating what most have said but definitely sock-ons (and the little shoes they do are great for first steps!) And a poppered vest to help keep nappy on and act as first line of defence against a splatty nappy. DD is 15 months and she still has poppered vests every day, mainly as you say to guard against the gap if her top comes up. I just vary the sleeve length. Cardigans are so useful too!
My DD was in sleepsuits a lot of the time til she started seriously crawling and as a PP has said you can put socks on under a sleepsuit if it's very cold. Sock-ons also help stop tights slipping off the foot! Tried not to use dresses when she was crawling as she got in a muddle although she had a few denim and jumper dresses that seemed to hang in a way that meant they weren't a problem.

I used to always use a vest, sometimes a long sleeved with leggings or a short sleeved with a longer top/jumper/dress and tights.

The dress is key with the nappy though

Ooooos I means the best is key with the nappy

Another recommendation for sock ons! And vests, my DD only stopped wearing vests under everything when we were potty training.

Mine lived in a vest, sleep suit and a cardigan on top until 9 months when he started to walk. Most comfy and practical thing for baby.

I put vests/bodysuits on them under their clothes, day and night until they are about 2. It's an essential under layer until they are properly and confidently walking IME. Even in summer if it was too hot for two layers, I'd just have the vest with a pair of shorts, or a romper on its own. I think it's unfair to put them in two piece things when they're rolling and crawling as they ride up and look cold!

Heartofglass12345 · 03/10/2020 22:23

@BertieBotts I love a romper, I was gutted when mine got too old for them lol
I also recommend sock ons, they can't get them off at all 🙂
As for dresses I probably wouldn't as they'd be a pain for her crawling around, leggings and tops are much more practical

nonstop80 · 03/10/2020 23:09

@Bol87 yes she’s been wearing sleepsuits up until now. Sleepsuits just seem so easy and the most practical and comfortable thing for babies!

Mine have all worn rompers or outfits such as long vest, bloomers and tights plus cardigan. I do/did put them in dresses but not much whilst they were crawling. Mine never wore leggings or trousers as their waist was too narrow for them to stay up.

caringcarer · 03/10/2020 23:40

My dd wore velour dresses with long sleeves and tights under. A clothes peg at the back when on floor crawling works.

Dyra · 04/10/2020 01:08

Short sleeved vest, long sleeved top and leggings. Add a cardigan if it's a bit nippy, or a coat/pram suit if it's cold. I don't bother with socks unless I'm going outside. Most of the floors in my house aren't carpeted, so socks just cause slips when she's cruising. It's warm enough indoors that they aren't really needed.

Don't bother with dresses until she's walking. They get in the way, don't hang right, and cause massive amounts of frustration to crawling babies. They look pretty, but you find yourself yanking them down all the time.

Parker231 · 04/10/2020 16:28

Mine only worn babygros until they were about nine/ten months. When it was colder they wore a vest underneath and a cardigan on top.

uglyface · 04/10/2020 19:04

Vests with poppers. Babygros and thick cardis until sitting/moving about independently, then leggings and tops, still with popper vests.

@Itllbeaninterestingchristmas

I’ve just sorted through all my baby clothes for number 2 and ds wore short sleeve vest to hold nappy on and a baby grow. Didn’t bother with trousers and tops until he was walking at 10 months. I kept him in vests with poppers until he was nearly 3
I still use popper vests on my 3yo and thought I was the only mum using them this late ;-)
