How often to measure toddlers feet for new shoes

My toddler is still in her first pair of Clarke's roamers, though she can now walk. We had her feet measured when we bough them (about 3 months ago?) and I've noticed that her big toe on one foot is right at the end of the shoe, so it's probably time I got her some new ones.

My question is - do I need to get her feet measured again or just buy some the next half size up? How often do you get your toddlers' feet measured generally?

Sorry, I have no idea about this stuff!

You need to get them measured every time really. The width and so on can change. You also need to make sure they fit correctly. Different shoes are better for different foot shapes.

I would measure each time - sometimes they only grow a bit other times they shoot up.

Buy a child's foot gauge and do it yourself - they're about seven quid and worth their weight in gold!

I get them measured every time - we go to a local shoe shop that's fantastic.

We go every 3 months, she usually has a new pair either because she's grown, or because of season change.
It's one of my greatest expenses! I just can't bring myself to buy cheap shoes though, especially as she has narrow feet.

At this stage, I would get them measured. Because she's still really little and it's hard to know how fast she'll grow and different shoes fit differently.

Youngest is now 2, but I don't typically get his feet measured anymore (though I do check them with a home foot measurer thing). I just wait until it's obvious he is outgrowing them, then I buy the next size up in the same shoe. But if it's only her 2nd part of shoes, I would get them checked because a lot can change in 3 months.

I would and do get dds feet measured everytime. Sometimes I’m told they’re fine and other time’s it’s a new pair of shoes.

I'm in the same position and am going to get his feet measured later today. I bought the next size up in a random shoe while out shopping without him, but they don't fit right. I'd rather get the advice of the shoe shop - we have a brilliant independent near us.

Every 6 weeks at this age Smile

Thanks all so much for the advice! I will go and get them measured next week.

I will see if there is an independent shop near us; otherwise it's back to Clarke's.

We were told they should be measured every 4-6 weeks and they were right. She’s gone up a half size every time.

God, I feel really neglectful now - I hope her feet are ok.

I’ve got a fitting booked on Monday at a local indy kids’ shoe shop. I’ll not leave it so long next time!

Measure each time, but you can do it at home. You can buy measuring machines from places like Clarks, but I think start right has a printable paper measure. And some places tell you how to measure with just a tape measure and a piece of paper www.happylittlesoles.co.uk/advice

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 03/10/2020 10:49

Def measured. Sometimes they grow a half size soemtimes a whole size.

Also different shoes fit differently so its not just a case of the shoe being the right number.

As a toddler we checked every 6-8 weeks. Once they started school we'd check each term (xmas /easter/summer). Now older juniors its more if they notice they dont fit or every year.
