Baby was up every 30-60 mins last night with what seems to be a cold. Runny nose and coughing occasionally. When he got up this morning I have him a bit of Calpol which he instantly puked up. He had his next bottle about 1130ish and seemed fine. Had a bit of food which got stuck which made him sick his bottle up. Fed again about an hour ago and he's been sick everywhere. His temp is 37.8 I'm so anxious. He's presenting really week. Still playing with toys laughing etc just a bit grouchy.

Should I take any further action. I'm worried in case he gets dehydrated

How are his nappies? Plenty of wet ones? I’d call your GP and see if they’ll see you.

My 7 and a half month daughter has been the same since Friday night. She's very snotty and coughs occasionally, but seems to be playing fine and is her at her usual body temperature.

I'm literally exhausted from it all. She's been having some of her bottle but not finishing it as usual. She's been spitting up a bits of milk and phlegm a few times during the day (tends to get it on her pjs and bedding/blankets I'd just washed for her. Which she's been finding funny) I've been trying to offer her water throughout the day but she only has one or two sips then starts messing.
Putting her to sleep for bedtime and naps has been the worst. It's just taken 30 minutes and lots of tears from both of us before she's finally gone to sleep. Poor babe is shattered and yet she still fights sleep.
I wish I could help more but I don't think there's much else we can do for a cold.

I absolutely sympathise with you though. It's really difficult making sure you're doing everything you can for them and stressing about cold symptoms during a pandemic.
Hopefully in a few days it will pass and they will be back to normal 🤞

Less wet nappies today. His temp has come down. From 37.8 to 37.6. He's such a happy baby.

Yes @Effsee isn't it scary. Sorry to hear your struggling too. X

Well you all need to isolate and get baby a covid swab for starters....

Couldntthinkofausername24 · 29/09/2020 17:07

Thanks but he doesn't have a persistent cough and his temp is only slightly raised. Not over 38

OP posts:
welshweasel · 29/09/2020 17:12

Doesn’t need a cough. Any temp of 37.8 of above needs a swab....not sure why people still try to pretend they don’t!

SacreBleeurgh · 29/09/2020 17:14

Temperature cut off for swab is 37.8.... You yourself have noticed that he’s coughing, which presumably makes it new, and to have mentioned it I would suggest means it is persistent (3 or more episodes in one day)... Also a criterion for isolation and swabbing...

turnthebiglightoff · 29/09/2020 17:18

Ah it's so horrible when they're this tiny. If his temp is fine and he is having a decent amount of wet nappies I really wouldn't be too worried. Baby colds can hang on for ageeesssss

turnthebiglightoff · 29/09/2020 17:20

Why have so many leapt to covid? Runny nose isn't a symptom and babies get colds as they have very weak immune systems. 6 months plus is prime cold season for babies.

pooopypants · 29/09/2020 17:24

Sounds like a big standard cold to me

Call the Dr's just in case though but sounds like you're anxious for no reason

SacreBleeurgh · 30/09/2020 09:45

Nobody has ‘leapt to COVID’ Hmm - OP’s wee one has a fever and (what sounds like could be) a new cough, ergo, in spite of the presence or absence of any other symptoms, cold-like or otherwise, requires swabbing as per the (actually very straightforward) government guidelines....

turnthebiglightoff · 30/09/2020 21:22

OPs LO also has a runny nose. Those symptoms together = A Cold.

doireallyneedaname · 30/09/2020 23:16

Call the doctor.

Susannahmoody · 30/09/2020 23:17

Teeth?

Couldntthinkofausername24 · 01/10/2020 01:27

Thanks guys. He defo has a cold. Runny nose, loads of mucus, streaming eyes and sneezing loads - none of these are signs of covid.

Yes he had a temp which disappeared and stayed away with one dose of calpol and an occasional cough which wasn't persistent and disappeared overnight

Its so frustrating, you can't fart these days with people suggesting covid

doireallyneedaname · 01/10/2020 05:50

Well, obviously. We’re in a pandemic.

By the way, Covid doesn’t necessarily present itself in babies like it does in adults. Probably is a cold, but don’t dismiss these symptoms in future - even adults have been known to have those symptoms with Covid.

turnthebiglightoff · 01/10/2020 08:46

It's a cold. OP knows it's a cold. No one needs to be isolating. Because it's a cold.

turnthebiglightoff · 01/10/2020 08:48

OP my 18mo has had a few colds, from 6-10 months were the worst. The cough can linger for ages and we ended up having to get an asthma pump for him as he was so chesty and wheezy again night. We no longer need to use it, and he's not had a cold for months but that's probably more down to lockdown than anything. As long as he has wet nappies and seems himself most of the time, it's just one to ride out I'm afraid. Calpol and cuddles! Hope he gets better soon.

Couldntthinkofausername24 · 01/10/2020 10:16

Thank you. He seems to be over the worst of it I hope. Hes absolutely fine in himself. Maybe a bit grouchy but hes happy smiling playing with toys etc. I struggle so bad with a cold as an adult so feel proper sorry for him x

Same! I hate colds; they often turn into a chest or sinus infection and I just can't be arsed with them. It must be rotten for a little one to not be well, but I find calpol / cuddles and CBeebies to be a fab help for them!! Grin
