Silent reflux, when did it start to improve

My niece had it really bad but she totally grew out of it by 12 weeks. I'm not sure if this is a rare case or if others have experienced same thing. My son has it horrendous. His only 7 weeks. Please send some positive stories my way. Really struggling

Oh its awful isnt it. My son is 7 months and still on a couple of sachets of gaviscon a day. Although he is so much better. He hasn't been too bad as some other babies i know but it's still hard. We had to keep him upright for hours after a feed. Hang on in there it will pass. Don't be afraid to speak to the gp for drugs. Mg son was on omeprazole but personally I don't think his reflux was bad enough to warrant it. I had awful heartburn and reflux when pregnant and was on ranitidine which helped loads. Now my husband bas it. It's weird xx

Sorry I've just realised my post wasn't very positive. I really hope it passes soon x

My son was on ranitidine and we had to go up to the highest dose before it worked. I tried several time’s to reduce the dose but he would get worse so he was on it until about 12 months old.

Honestly keep going back to your gp until it is sorted 💐

My daughter is 3 and still on omeprazole. I don’t say that to be unkind, the opposite really. I constantly had people saying ‘it’ll improve at 6 weeks/4 months/6months/when they wean/when they walk’ and I just got more and more upset at each of these milestones when it didn’t improve.

However, once we got the medication down life really wasn’t much different to my other friends with babies the same age. I was very fortunate to have a great gp, then we got referred to a paediatrician and then a gastric specialist.

My advice would be to keep going to the doctors. I think different areas have different pathways, but it’s so important to get started as there can be a set amount of time you need to try each solution. Feel free to ask any questions :)

The first 7 weeks of my daughters life were absolute hell for us. We had been to the gp 3 times in that time frame and they palmed us off with gaviscon. She was bottle fed and screamed for food constantly as that soothed it instantly but as soon as she stopped feeding it would start coming back up and burning her. We only got given ranitidine when the health visitor witnessed what was going on and saw just how broken we were from no sleep. She got straight on the phone and got us an appointment with a different gp and within 2 doses of ranitidine she was a different baby. She sadly was on it till she was 3 as the reflux just wouldn't go.

Looking back I get quite angry of the weeks we were robbed of with a newborn. We didn't enjoy any of the first 7 weeks. It was just absolute hell and a matter of surviving it.

Keep pushing your gp for medication or request a referral to a pediatrician.

Almost overnight after adding Carobel to his milk. He didn't bring up a single feed after starting on that

belvitacrunch · 28/09/2020 21:21

I second Carobel. Both of mine suffered really badly with silent reflux and the difference with Carobel (once we got the dosage right) was unbelievable. The paediatrician advised us to keep upping the dose until it worked and we needed the highest dose per the pack instructions and then it was like magic. Also Wedgeman wedges in cot, Moses basket, changing table and buggy and kept them upright for 20 mins after feeding and never laid them flat e.g on. a playmat. We tried a few times to take them off it and they were in agony again straight away. Finally weaned both off it gradually once they were firmly established on solids - maybe 7 months and they were fine then.
