Incredibly stupid question about the Stokke Xplory

Despite years of living with wobbly Ikea furniture, I have stupidly bought something Scandinavian that came in a box.

The front set of wheels are folded inside the back set (which I gather is the position for taking it up stairs). How the hell do I fold them out? There are two buttons that I am supposed to push simultaneously, but the bottom one won't go in. There seems to be a stick of white plastic running down the spine of the thing which is slightly out of the metal channel and is somehow stopping the wheels from folding out. There must be some sort of brake that's applied itself and I can't work out how to take it off. I don't know how hard you can push the white plastic buttons - obviously I don't want to force it to breaking point.

My husband and I tried unsuccessfully for hours last night and ended up shoving it back in the box. I got so frustrated I had to use one of my weekly alcohol units to calm down. Between us we have four degrees but are completely defeated by this thing.

i'm assuming it's still the same design as mine.

there is a button at the top, you need to push it in and up and the same time. then the back wheels just get released, then put them all the way back and the button at the bottom will lock them into place.

to fold up, you then push the top button in and up, the back wheels will release, then with foot slide the bottom button down.

hope this makes sense and helps. fwiw my dh and i had many troubles in the begin, then when realised how simple it is, we felt very . was even tempted to leave it in a carpark one day!

or take iot back to where you got it and ask them to show you properly how to use it- they should never have sent you away with it before showing you how to unfold it

is it something to keep it solid in transit, does the white plastic thing slide out? otherwise, agree, back to shop. or ring stokke get them to tell you how?

Just to say, that it's not stupid to have bought the Xplory - it's a fab pushchair - and once you've got the hang of folding it, it's just as easy as any other!

Hope you've worked it out now. It does take a bit of practice, but worth it.

I remember having problems at first. Definitely go back to the shop and get them to give you a demonstration if you're not sure.

Thanks everyone.

They're actually not sold where I live so I bought it overseas and can't go back for a tutorial. I think we should be able to work it out from the responses here.

Cheers for saving me from advertising it in the classifieds: "One brand new in box Stokke pushchair. Would suit someone with postdoctoral fellowship in mechanical engineering. One boot-shaped hole in box where kicked in frustration, pushchair undamaged"

Does anyone know how long the guarantee is that comes with them?

BrownSuga · 20/12/2007 18:03

I;d like to know that too, one of our front wheels keeps falling off.

choosyfloosy · 20/12/2007 18:05

You'll crack it, no worries. These things always take minimum of 15 minutes the first time you do them.

The only thing is, don't expect grandparents who have never used it before to be able to fold it, if they take the kid out. Esp as the kinds of button-holding, clip-pressing procedures pushchairs tend to require get harder with older hands

BrownSuga · 20/12/2007 18:13

Addicted, and anyone else with sim. problem as ours, ie front wheel falling off... the stokke website has a notice on it, saying the older model (lists serial numbers) may have this problem and to contact them for free replacement wheels.

WinkyWinkola · 20/12/2007 18:21

I loved my Stokke but had to sell it and replace with twin buggy Phil & Ted.

I always found the buttons to make it into two wheels really tricky though. I think it could be a lot simpler.

Sounds bad tempered but I used to shake mine a bit and then try the buttons again. Worked most of the time.

I hope you enjoy your buggy!

so it doesn't matter if it is 3 years old? it's not the front wheel thats the problem though - the seat will only stay in the lowest position.
