Massage her tummy and bring her legs up to her tummy and back down then up again.

How old is baby? You can offer a sip of water.

Depends how old she is? If weaning you could try prune pouches?

My 2 always went 2 or 3 days between poos. What age is she?

It's normal for some babies to go that long without a bowel movement, but if it's making her unhappy or it becomes a long term issue, speak to the GP as they can prescribe lactolose. It's also worth considering if there is any underlying issue, e.g. a dairy intolerance if it persists.

If it's any help too, I found SMA formula much gentler than others!

blowyernose · 28/09/2020 01:37

She's 5 months, 3.5 corrected age. She's not weaned and quite a way off weaning I think. I never considered SMA I'll look into it, thanks. Do you recommend the standard pro milk?

At that age mine would go a couple of days sometimes, would be grumpy about it though. A bottle of ready made milk usually helped as did moving legs up and down and bicycle legs.

With both of my babies I used to sit them in their bouncy chair (they had vibrate settings)

Put the vibrate on and slightly position their legs up using a rolled up blanket.

Then I'd put the tv on or some calm music (so they would relax)

And it would more often than not make them poo...

Yes, the standard milk was fine. My baby had an intolerance to cow's milk, so was prescribed hypoallergenic milk (smells awful) but it was SMA, and eventually we were able to transition onto the normal stuff, so it might just be that he was getting older and better at digesting, or it might be that SMA suited him more than the other brands! Nothing is straightforward is it?!

A good teaspoon of proper brown sugar (not demerara or light brown) mixed with water until it desolves. You can try it a couple of times.
If that fails, a cotton wool bud covered in vaseline inserted slightly up the bottom (do not go in far obviously)
Both of these were recommended by a doctor when my current youngest was a baby.

Just to add, with him it wasn't just that he consistently went for a few days without a bowel movement; it was the straining all night and the tears and exhaustion when he was actually going- it was really upsetting! So I hope your little one feels better soon, but if it gets worse, the GP might be an option. Lactolose and allergy milk were the winning combination for us but it took a long time to work out what to do for the best. To echo what others have said above, weaning made a huge difference to him, so you've got something to look forward to!
