530 wake ups

Hi

Toddler 19 months has been waking at 530 ( previously he has slept until 6 or even 7-730)

He goes to sleep at approx 1830 ( we do the bath at 6 and 2 stories put him into cot awake with dummy and he goes off to sleep no problem- no crying )

But then he is is up for the day 530 .

If he has nursery he will nap when he returns so 1/130-3. If he doesn't have nursery and has woke up 530 he tend to then drop off ( if we are in the car ) as early as 9 am! But ends up having 15 minutes or so then will have an hour later on around 2.

Any ideas how I can stop the 530 wake ups 630 onwards is a lot better ! Should I try putting him to bed later ? Saying that I'm pretty sure when he has been later we still got unpredictable wake up times

I'd put him to bed later but give it a week before you decide if its working or not.

I had a 5am waker and when the clocks changed kept putting him to bed at the same time, so 7.30am became 8.30am. It worked! I now have faith in the later bedtime, later wake idea. I think my DS only needs 10hours of night sleep and I'd rather a later wake than earlier bedtime.

DS1 is nearly 8 and still wakes up at 5.30am, no matter what time he goes to bed. He also turns the bathroom fan on at that time Hmm No advice, I'm afraid OP, although I think he's an extreme case.

Thank you everyone . I think I am feeling worse as I was up until 2 am coughing so have had minimal sleep. Typical on the one weekend my partner isn't here when he normally always is . It's been going on for some time now the 5 am wake but just feeling the effects today with illness. Will try later bedtime

My dd used to wake up at 5.30 until she was about 8. Nothing I tried worked, if she went to bed later she'd still wake at 5.30 but be grumpy as she was tired. I ended up changing my sleeping habits in the end, I'd go to bed at 9.30 so I wasn't knackered all day.

She's now in her teens and still gets up at 7.30. Difference is she can sort herself out so I can have a lie in. She normally just decamps to the sofa with a blanket

Do you think his nap is too late if it's until 3?

I've always found 3 pm as the cut off point - the very latest the nap can end.

Exactly this. Changing DC bed time just made us both overtired and miserable. Now age 15, still up by 7 at the latest.

So he was up 530 am very grumpy and tired at 12 so went for nap then .. luckily I had done early lunch.

Yes thinking about it I don't know if a later bed time will change anything it's all random tbh as usually down 630-7 but can wake up anywhere from 5-7 x
