A silly nap question

Hi all, I have a 20 month old who still has a 1 and a half/2 hour nap per day. Usually around 1.30/2pm till 3/3.30.
Question is my daughter is starting full time school from Monday (after a slow part time introduction) and needs picking up at 2.40.
This is obviously going to mean baby can't nap as I have to leave to get her at 2.30 latest.
What would u do in regards to naps. He definitely isn't ready to drop the nap.
Sleeps 8pm till 7am
Thanks all x

I’d just wake them up. They’d get half an hour at least before you leave and then they might sleep when you get them into the car anyway. Assuming that’s how you are doing pickup.

I'll be walking. He doesn't sleep in the pushchair unfortunately x

Try and shift the nap so it starts earlier? Mine was on nursery at that age and napped 12-2

Ah! Dilemma then. Could you try and move lunch or whatever earlier and really tire them out so that they go down earlier and get a little longer. Honestly I don’t think they’ll suffer by not having a nap or having a short on on the first day but could be some tough times after that until they adjust to just not having one. Hope someone else can advise

I would bring it forward, earlier lunch at 11.45, down for nap at 12.30, wake up 2-2.15 ish.

SlimGin · 26/09/2020 22:59

Agree to bring it forward. If you go for a walk - to a local park (if possible) or somewhere he can run around - in the morning and really tire him out, you might be able to bring lunch/nap forward?

Lazypuppy · 26/09/2020 23:02

Just move it earlier

Will try move it forward, thank u. Worth a try as he will be an over tired mess without one/a very short one xx

It's easier to do food on the go than a nap on the go. So bring sandwiches/snacks on the school run and give them in the buggy. Means you can bring a snack for eldest as well who often suffer low blood sugar at the end of an exhausting school day! :) When it's cold, a raincover also makes a good wind cover so you can leave gloves off the toddler so they can eat easily.

Is this likely to be short term? 2.40 seems like an early school pick up time.

BertieBotts yes the school pick up time is like that for the foreseeable. Its due to staggering pick up times for covid x
