Hi all looking for advice
My LG is 9 and 1/2 months old and still taking 3 bottles.
So I'm thinking of dropping her one in the middle of the day.
She's a chunky monkey lol her routine would be

Breakfast about 730
7oz about 1030
Lunch around 1
Snack around 330
Dinner 630 ( I work untill6pm )
Bottle 9oz bed

Does this look ok ?
Can people please suggest snacks for this age ? I feel it's all so samey
😩
Thanks !!

I'm sure they're still supposed to have around 20oz of milk at that age so I wouldnt be dropping another feed yet.

Aleshia31 · 26/09/2020 17:09

I was told from my hv under 20oz is fine as long as I give vitamin d drops ?

Are you in a rush to drop milk? Maybe give a smaller amount to start with rather than dropping it completely.

What do you give already?
Yoghurt
Crackers and cheese
Fruit

Your baby will drop their bottles when they are ready.

All of mine have been well over 1yr when they reduced to 2 bottles (morning and night). Milk is their main source of goodness until after they are 1yrs old

Reducing milk too soon will affect baby's teeth and bone development

Ohalrightthen · 26/09/2020 18:30

She'll let you know when shes ready to drop it cos she'll stop drinking it.

Gettingonabitnow · 26/09/2020 21:11

Hi, my 9.5 month:

6.30 7oz formula
8am breakfast of weetabix or porridge and water made with cows milk
12 noon lunch and water, something decent like pasta, shepherds pie
4.30 tea and water, a sandwich, toast etc
8pm 8oz formula

X

Well she doesn't really have snacks the now as I said she gets the bottle instead so was looking at what to replace with kinda thing.
I understand that she will " naturally " drop the bottle feeds - but I honestly think my girl
Is one of those babies that would eat and eat and eat so I was just looking for some advice lol @Gettingonabitnow did your little one just drop the bottles themselves as your down to 2 bottles :)?
I have cut the day time bottles down to 5 oz and she's not phased by this so can even try and phase one of them out over weeks
I know she's young I'm just looking for advice from some
Mums as it's my first baby

You can make them an ice lolly made with blended fresh fruit, milk or yogurt. Theres puffers from the shop, you can give them softened peices of carrots, apple, pear, sweet potato and brocoli to munch on.

You have a good routine but why are you giving them so little milk? If they are eating a lot of food then it could be because they aren't receiving the nutrients they should be from milk. Until 1 year food shouls be used as extra, not to replace milk. I dont want to come across judgemental but theres no need to reduce your babies milk intake, I know there can be pressure but they aren't better off without it..

dementedpixie · 30/09/2020 07:49

I just don't get why you are so keen to reduce milk when your lo is taking the amount advised for their age group. That amount is advised for a reason and so they get the required nutrients for their stage in life. The advice about vitamin drops under 500mls applies when people struggle to get their baby to take enough milk so need a supplement.

alesha123445 · 30/09/2020 07:56

I want to add that a family member of mine has done the exact same with their baby boy who is also 9 months, she reduced their milk at 3 months though :/ They eat TONS of food, are very chunky and is given lots of water through out the day. Tgis baby gulfs down more calories than they need because their bodies compensating for the nutrients they aren't getting from the milk, for babies food doesnt contain enough in smaller portions thus leading to being overweight and overeating. I don't want to come across as judgemental but reducing babies milk is becoming increasingly common and normalised. I have no idea why but dont feel pressured to do this, follow your babies lead as they will decided when it's time to reduce the milk. On more milk they wont be gulfing down as many bowls of food because they will more satisfied.

Thanks for some of your comments.
I feel like I am being extremely judged when I'm literally asking for help / advice
My health visitor told me that it was time to start doing this and introduce snacks.
So being a first time mum is daunting and when a health professional is telling you to do this then what do u expect people to
Do?

Yes the pressure is on I feel for a baby not not really have any bottles come their first birthday hence the reason that I am asking for advice,
I don't know any better so I feel very shitty ( sorry ) when I see comments like this.
I am trying to do my best here

You can introduce snacks without dropping milk. You have a couple of months for them to reduce milk by themselves. At that age you could offer some of the milk in a cup alongside a snack. And they can still have milk after age 1 but preferably from a cup rather than a bottle (and it would be cows milk by then)

Aleshia31 · 01/10/2020 06:06

@dementedpixie thank you !
Do you mean the formula milk into a cup xx

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 01/10/2020 07:12

Yes I do. Maybe make it up in a bottle and pour some into a lidded cup.

Aleshia31 · 01/10/2020 07:46

Thanks x I'm
Not in a rush to reduce milk at all you just try and follow what you've been told you just can't win these days lol x

I'm trying to get my baby to take more milk. He's always been a big milk feeder but since he turned 8.5 months. Getting 16-20oz is difficult. Having to make most of his food with his formula. Refusing of bottles. Would love him to take 6-8oz bottle in a morning
We only get a 3-4oz.

Then I'm always getting told fun before 1 is just for food and I need to cut down on his food
