Baby clothes for a long baby!

I just wondered if anyone can point me in the direction of 'generous' sized sleepsuits? DD is 6 weeks old and has been quite long from birth - she was in 1 month clothes for about a week and 0-3 thereafter from places like Next, Nutmeg and Tu but I'm finding already that they don't seem long enough for her legs as when she stretches out there is hardly any give.
Any ideas or am I best popping her in leggings and socks more until she's ready to go into 3-6 months?

I found John Lewis really good for long legs (my little ones legs/feet would be mega cramped but the body/top would be super baggy, but not with JL).

Another vote for John Lewis. Mamas and papas too

Tights and leggings rather than socks. Both mine were horrible for keeping socks on. Nearly 2 year old still only wears socks with shoes, they're off as soon as the shoes are!

Mark's and Spencer are quite big sized.
H & m also generous plus they do leggings with feet and body suits which might work better for you

Thank you all! Smile

Our baby is also long. I have started buying footless sleepsuits so he can still wear them, but stretch out easier with a pair of socks on the end. They last a bit longer then also.

India999 · 26/09/2020 07:27

Surely she is just ready to go into 3-6 now then?

Mine has always been in the next size up! 98th centile for height. Sainsbury's has been the best for generous sizes.

larrythelizard · 26/09/2020 07:39

H&M all the way. DS still in his 'correct' age clothes from H&M but from nowhere else!

Bikingbear · 26/09/2020 08:21

I would put her in 3-6 rather than buy more 0-3. If she's a long baby she might always be in a size up. I've a smurf who's always a size down.

randomsabreuse · 26/09/2020 08:59

I assume the issue is length vs width/neck holes. My first was long and narrow. For body suits I used vest extenders so she could wear a vest that was about the right width but long enough.

I still have fun with width vs length for her at 5... Needs 5-6 for length and 3-4 for waist/shoulders!

Caspianberg · 26/09/2020 09:05

Yes length and width can be an issue. My baby is 4 months, but nearly outgrown 6-9 month sleepsuits with feet in, but like I said is fine in footless ones 6-9, or leggings 6-9 as they aren’t tight with socks. But 9-12 months are quite baggy at neck and in arm length for him still

ForeverBubblegum · 26/09/2020 09:40

My DD was like that. If I put her in a sleep suit that was long enough when she stretched out her legs, it was like a sack round her. The legs would be too wide to stay on her, so if she kicked or curled up she ended up stuck in a ball in the body bit.

I got some footless onesies, in the right with (from Aldi). The legs only went to 3/4 length, but her socks went up to her knees, so it worked. Or as you say leggings and a top, in different sizes if needs be.

DS1 did that, or both legs would end up in the same leg. I think I eventually solved the issue when he moved into two piece pjs. Never crossed my mind that he was the wrong shape for the babygrowsBlush

You just go up a size??

Age is just a rough guidance like when you buy clothes for yourself I have everything from a size 8 to 14 that fits me...

My super tall DC were in 18-24months around their 1st birthdays.

RandomMess · 26/09/2020 10:13

@randomsabreuse that is so familiar mine are much older now.

School trousers I used to go down an age and buy extra long from Asda so they had a chance of staying up.

School trousers confuse the living daylights out of me. Why do they not sell them like mens trousers, waist size and length?
Normal clothes I go by height not age, but school trousers they sell them as the same height but different lengths and some places also do slim fit.

Sorry to go off topic but...

RandomMess · 26/09/2020 12:24

I have DDs so even fewer options!!! Vertbaudet clothing tends to be slim cut and do slim versions as do gap in some jeans.

Mine lived in dresses and baggy leggings...

Goatsdorhone · 26/09/2020 15:05

Thanks all. I have a few 3-6 month suits in the cupboard so will see how they fit - I suspect they may swamp her width wise. I guess I just assumed there is no way a 6 week old could need to go up into 3-6 month clothes! Shock

Most of the cotton clothes like sleep suits shrink in the wash the first few washes too!

MS5869 · 06/10/2020 09:51

hi! Why don't you put him in a baby sleeping bag? Some last for months (the mookiemerino lasts from nearly birth to 2 years)...? It's made of merino wool so good for the whole year. Good luck
