Babies and when to start Finger Food

Hello!

I'm just curious what age everybody started their little one on finger foods? My little boy will be 7 months in a few days and I haven't started any finger foods yet I've tried to look online but some say 6/7 or 8 months so I just wanted to know what age you stated your little one on them and how you found it? Also what kind of foods you tried them with first.

Thanks!Smile

Started from 6 months as did baby led weaning. Few gags at the start but took to it fine from the beginning

Mine had what ever I was eating. So chicken, beef, potatoes, toast, rice, pasta, spaghetti, pinwheels, all fruit and veg in finger sized sticks.

6.5 months when we started weaning (she was premature). We did BLW.

I offer finger foods right at the start of weaning - things like a floret of broccoli or a soft carrot stick alongside mashed up or puréed veg.

My baby is 8 months and I do a mixture of purées and finger foods so I can make sure she is eating enough ( she tends to mess with finger foods more than eat them ) but I am making things more lumpy now and giving her rice and spaghetti or rice cakes etc so she learns to chew.

I did a mixture of finger foods and mashed veg from 6.5 months. I started with basic steamed veg, so mashed broccoli with broccoli finger foods, and just did a different veg every day for a week or 2, and then moved on to mixing them together. Then I moved on to whatever was in the fridge; cheese, tuna, omelettes, toast, anything really once they could be mushed up without teeth. She did shockingly well with solid food despite not having teeth.

Joe Wicks has a good instagram account with finger food ideas, as does what mummy makes, or just look at the hashtag #blw6months

My dc both had mushed up food and finger foods from 6 months. Ds (first baby)had organic fruit and veg, homemade bread etc. Dd had literally everything, chocooate , crumpets, toasted teacakes, stuff her brother found on the floor of toddler group....

My youngest nicked my sandwich when she 5.5months. I always made sure there was something suitable for her when I tried to eat after that. We hadn't meant to do full on BLW but she completely refused spoons and purees.

Disappointedkoala · 24/09/2020 13:29

5.5 months when it was clear I'd got a spoon refuser.

I served them from day 1 of weaning - mainly fruit, veg, toast and pasta. He didn't really engage with them for a while but as soon as he realised he could feed himself, he was off.

FolkSongSweet · 24/09/2020 15:44

From day one of weaning at 5.5 months - he was so determined to feed himself. We did full BLW - it was completely his choice.

Kitkat05 · 24/09/2020 16:47

I started at 8.5 months.. was too worried to start earlier..

firstimemamma · 24/09/2020 16:49

About 9 months I think. We started weaning just over 5 months and he had purées / mashed up food at first and nothing other than fruit and veg until 6 months. Worked well for us.

My son has just turned 7 months this week and is still on pureed food. Tried him on finger food or lumpy food and he is just sick every time. I plan to try again in a few weeks x
