3 month old food

Just purchased some baby porridge for my daughter who is 3 months. The packet states it is for 4-6 months. So technically could try her with it in 3 weeks. Anybody else tried baby with porridge at 4 months?

I weaned at 6 months. As far as I'm aware you should only wean early if advised by a medical professional (like for reflux or for some prem babies). I found weaning a massive faff and wouldn't start before you have to.

NHS guidelines are to start feeding once a baby is 6 months or showing signs of readiness. The absolute minimum is 17 weeks (due to underdeveloped digestive system) under the advice for a GP usually due to issues such as severe reflux.

I personally wouldn’t be offering a baby that small any food until the absolute minimum age. And even then they are unlikely to be ready because of the tongue reflex still being there (meaning they just push the food and rather than swallow it)

They also need to be able to sit up properly - all of this is important as it shows readiness and ability to swallow/not choke etc

What signs of being ready to wean is she showing?

I'm genuinely curious why anyone would you want to give their child food at 4 months when its very clear that the guidance is 6 months? Unless you have been advised to wean early by a health care professional you should wait until 6 months.

And swapping nutritional milk for something that is more like wallpaper paste at that.

My health visitor was talking about this the other day. It’s a marketing farce that companies put 4m on foods they do that to make you buy it, when babies shouldn’t be weaned until they are at least 6m and even then it’s just exploring textures, their diet is still heavily milk at that age.
Unless otherwise medically advised don’t wean until 6m.

NHS guidance is 6 months or showing all the signs of being ready. I weaned DC1 at 19 weeks but this was under medical advice due to reflux issues. Waiting until they are ready makes it much less stressful for you both too!
