Nursery assessment - walking

My DD has just turned 19 months. She has started walking but still a little wobbly when she’s tired or over excited.

DH collected her from nursery this afternoon and they advised that her right leg was turned slightly inwards and could be the reason for her being a little wobbly/falling over.

They have suggested calling the health visitor in the morning for an assessment.

Is this something that I should be worried about? Or is this fairly common?

I could have written this exact post a year ago. DD was also 18-19 months when she would walk with a walker and stand at a table if you propped her up but one foot turned in. Nursery asked us to call HV.

I did do so but missed a call back and then it slipped my mind and at 21 months she was walking fine, no turn in. She was just figuring it out in her own time.

Thanks @DappledThings. So glad that it resolved for you and DD without any interaction. DH and I have never noticed that her leg turns inward so was a little taken aback. They said it could be because she took to walking a little later than some babies but then mentioned that she might need special shoes so started to panic a bit.

Yes, sounds very similar. They also said she was dragging one leg when she was walking with a walker. They sent us some video and I could see what they were talking about but it also looked to me like she was just unsteady because she wasnt quite ready yet.

It makes sense to me that children who are a bit older might be a bit more wobbly and uneven like that because they are trying to learn to walk carrying more weight!

Having said all that a chat with the HV can't hurt. They were going to send a physio specialist HV out to see us at home or at nursery to observe had we got round to calling back!

@DappledThings. Yeah I’ll definitely call the HV although I’ve found her to be pretty useless in the past! I’m sure she’ll ask for a video as don’t think the HV is doing face to face at the moment!

I was just looking at old photos for something else today and saw this which reminded me of this thread. This is DD at 17 months, 4 months before walking but tolerating being stood up and holding on. The turn in on one side is pretty pronounced but it just sorted itself out.
