Am I a cowardly Mummy?

Ds1's school sent out a questionnaire last year asking for suggestions as to how they could improve parent/teacher relations.

One of my suggestions was that they have evenings where parents can be shown the methods which are used to teach the children - particularly numeracy. I have really struggled with some of the numeracy homework ds1 has brought home.

Anyway, suggestions were taken on board and a note came home to say there would be a "Fun With Numbers" evening tonight at 7.30 - with "hands on involvement and fun numeracy quizzes for parents."

I completely bottled it (maths always sent me into a blind spin of total panic - I just about scraped an O'level) and made dh go instead. He was laughing and saying "it's maths for 7 year olds, how hard can it be?" but I just know I would have looked like an idiot [shame]

I'm a coward, aren't I? I'd go to a Literacy evening.....

No, you are Playing To Your Strengths. Fun With Sodding Numbers my wossname.

You've DONE O'level Maths, FFS. Your task now is to ensure that your lovely sons are sufficiently numerate and employable to support you in your old age. You are not doomed to repeat it, in some vile nightmarish groundhog day performance. Are you? (thinks scaredycat thoughts about having to retake all those exams again in 13 years' time)

(I did get O level maths, honestly, miss)

popsycal · 18/10/2004 20:46

it is a brilliant website with loads of advice for paretns

motherinferior · 18/10/2004 20:47

Sorry, I know that sounded frivolous, but honestly Moolet I don't see why you should make yourself miserable.

LOL, motherinferior

Thanks for that site popsy, I've added it to my favourites.

He's just got back - says he knows it all now (so what's new?) Nearly knew more than he bargained for as he started off in the Year 6 session.

Do you want to know how many parents turned up? Out of a year group of 70+? Six. Even I can do that maths and it's shameful.

As you say, pixiefish, at least one of us went - and I can help with all the other homework.
