Hello, calpol states it is 2 months +
Can I give this after his jabs (he will be 8 weeks) or is there something else I can give?

I think new recommendations are not to give calpol etc after jabs where possible as it can reduce the immune reaction.

pinkbalconyrailing · 21/09/2020 15:04

yes, you can give it.
medically 4 weeks/28 days = 1 month

Bluebelltulip · 21/09/2020 15:05

It's fine and recommended to use after the first immunisations as the meningitis b vaccine can cause a fever. The GP surgery will likely give you a leaflet outlining when to give it.

Yes, you are meant to give calpol for the 1st and 3rd imms to stop a high temperature ( 3 doses)

PragmaticWench · 21/09/2020 15:06

You can but it's advised not to as it reduces the efficacy of the vaccines.

Igotmyholiday · 21/09/2020 15:07

The advice not to is old, the combination of men b and 6 in 1 recommends paracetamol

ginandtonicformeplease · 21/09/2020 15:09

I've been advised by both the HV and the GP to use Calpol after the first vaccines - for PP saying it reduces the efficacy of the vaccines, is this official advice from the NHS now?

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 21/09/2020 15:12

I've been told to use for first vaccines too, by the midwife.

Official NHS page says about the MenB "It's important to use paracetamol after vaccination to reduce the risk of a fever."

Apologies, this was about 4 years ago, advice I was given by nurse at GP (sw London). It was do not give calpol pre-empting symptoms, but you can treat them if they develop a fever and are particularly uncomfortable. (Just checked sticky note still in red book). I didn’t get a leaflet 4 years ago, but nurse would be able to give guidance when you’re at the vaccination.

I gave my son half a teaspoon as he was really distressed after first vac.

Men B has been included since then which is almost guaranteed to induce a fever. Official advice now is to administer prophylactic Calpol asap after the injection, and twice more, to try to stop the fever developing.

With DS, the GP advised me too take the Calpol into the vaccination appointment with me and the nurse watched me administer it directly afterwards before we left.

Random aside but DS screamed like hell afterwards. We were still establishing breastfeeding and he was far too upset to latch. At the GP last week and saw another mum going through exactly the same. For the next set of injections, I took expressed milk in a bottle and he settled down on that very quickly. Just a thought if you’re breastfeeding but, like me, haven’t got it entirely down pat just yet.

3 doses are recommended after the MenB vaccine. Yes calpol is fine to use
