which room, i mean?
and why?

(I've been changing DS in his bedroom (which has a basin; however we've just moved on to solids, which seems to mean liners, and emptying poo down the loo - so, does everyone change in the bathroom? and what do you do if (like us) you have a teeny weeny chilly bathroom?)

I change him in the bedroom, then do a daring dash to flick nappy contents down the loo. Back to bucket in his bedroom (on top of chest of drawers, so safely out of reach!)

TwigorTreat · 09/10/2007 09:44

wherever I was on the floor .. so lounge or bathroom or on bed or wherever ... nappies go straight into outside bin

purpleturtle · 09/10/2007 09:44

Why?

Separate loo - no room; titchy tiny bathroom - also no room.

Wherever there is floor space on which to pin down dd2

nappyzone · 09/10/2007 09:56

wherever i am!! go grab a nappy - pin boy down, change it - empty it down nearest loo and get on with playing....

littlefrog · 09/10/2007 10:39

ok, so you're just all more deft than me. or less squeamish? or better at getting more poo onto the liner?

changing dirty nappies currently seems to involve taking overflowing liner and dirty nappy from bedroom to bathroom, scraping poo off nappy and rinsing it in loo, then scampering back to nappy bucket w a nappy dripping pooey water - yuk!

maybe this will get neater once his poo is less runny? or not?!

I change kids in their bedroom, sort of put nappy to one side on a plastic surface while putting new nappy on, then when child done I take nappy to bathroom and do emptying etc. I must admit that if I have to suice it and its dripping afterwards I throw it out of the bathroom window, it usually lands near the nappy bucket that we keep in the yard!

ib · 09/10/2007 10:56

Can't you take the nappy bucket into the loo with you? Ds' poos are now solid, so not a problem. We dry pail as well, so no dripping nappies.

Flibbertyjibbet · 09/10/2007 10:58

uuuuurghghghg the stink. Thats why my dry pailing nappy bucket is in the yard.
Would you want to sleep/nap in a room that stank of your own poo? Nope.

Flibbertyjibbet · 09/10/2007 10:59

oops ib, just re-read and you are suggesting nappy bucket in LOO not bedroom .
I tried that and the stink was terrible, till dp pointed out that the underfloor heating was basically slow cooking all the nappies!!

ib · 09/10/2007 11:05

We have ds' nappy bucket in our bathroom and it doesn't smell at all, but then I guess we do empty it out pretty much every day. It's got a lid, so any smell is contained.

nappyzone · 09/10/2007 12:54

with have our bucket in the loo so i can shake and dum in one trip iyswim.

claireybee · 09/10/2007 13:48

I change poo in her bedroom where her change mat is, and wet ones also there if i can be bothered to take her upstairs or if not wherever i am. I then take liner to bathroom and chuck down loo (particularly bad nappies mean taking the whole nappy) and put the nappy in the bucket, which at the mo is in her room but am looking for a new location. I dont rinse nappy so no dripping of pooey water here!
Have to say that the nappy bucket doesnt let out any poo smells, and her room only smells of wee/poo if i use one of those stupid wet nappy bags which not only dont close properly but which also seem to wick through onto whatever surface i put them (or into bag if out/away)

mozzybear · 10/10/2007 13:22

FJ - Slow cooked nappies yuuuummmm! Bet that smelt... interesting!

I have bucket in bathroom. Pin boy down in bed room on floor (sometimes on a towel if I'm organised) change nappy then deal with aftermath. Did have bucket in bedroom till ds started to roll and crawl. Suspect they won't be safe on bathroom for much longer. Will have to move bucket to bath then.

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 10/10/2007 13:24

Bucket is next to toilet. DD is changed in her bedroom.

claireybee · 10/10/2007 13:32

Those of ou with buckets outside...do you not find you end up with a bucket full of slugs?? I had mine outside for a while but the slugs somehow managed to find their way in (It does have a tight fitting lid) and when i washed the nappies i kept finding bits of slug in the wash-was just too gross!

Flibbertyjibbet · 10/10/2007 13:55

The slugs can't get to the nappy bucket as we stand it on a couple of bricks and they don't seem to have worked that one out yet!

On the odd occasion that a nappy was slung out of the window and not picked up before getting slugged - well those nappies got boil washes to themselves
It doesn't look the prettiest thing but then neither would a bin overflowing with disposables...

Dodaday · 10/10/2007 15:14

I have a strict nappy changing place/routine for DS1/2 which is in one of the bedrooms (DS2 bedroom) with a washbasin and adjacent bathroom. Everything needed is there, with changing mat on a waist high table, nappy bucket etc. My mum says should used to change me wherever she was, and usually on her lap! It's had to believe that, because it would'nt be possible with my two wrigglers!

nappyneeds · 10/10/2007 23:15

I change dd in her bedroom. It is the 'box' room of the house but she has slide out drawers under cot with nappies and a shelf for a top n tail. The change mat props against the shelf out the way until needed and everything else (washable wipes and all is on the shelf ready). She does wander off half way through into her big brothers room round the corner though. The nappy bucket is kept in the bathroom

UniSarah · 11/10/2007 20:25

sealing lids on nappy buckets are a good thing. two buckets is also a good thing, one by loo, one by change top. I prefer to change boy on high change top in his bedroom, easier for my back and knees. he is now old enogh to potter about while I deal with poohy nappy, when younger I would pop him in cot or on bedroom floor with door shut. he hasn;t yet managed to un seal a nappy bucket lid- they are ex- mayonaise tubs from a cafe, 9l buckets with handle and lid.
