What do you send your babies to nursery in?

Hi all,

My little girl is due to start nursery in two weeks time. She’s 9 months.
Do you only send them to nursery in clothes so to speak or do you sometimes send them in baby grows ? I feel like for the fast few weeks I’ve been buying buying buying so that I don’t send her in baby grows as I feel like it’s informal ? I don’t know why I have this in my head ! But just wanted other people’s thoughts ?

Thanks x

My little girl started in nursery at same age, and we sent her in leggings/ joggers and vest/tshirt/cardigan. Wanted to make it as easy as possible for staff changing her, and it meant any changes from nappy leaks or spilt food could be kept to just the one bit of clothing rather than a full baby grow needing changed. HTH X

Mine started at 12 months and yes, it was clothes rather than baby grows. There was a very young baby, a couple of months old, they were the only one in baby grows. But, I wouldn't worry too much. Whatever it is, it will get filthy, so nothing expensive!

I did go for clothes rather than baby grows but she was 1.
Easy clothes though, little vest and leggings/top or in summer a dress and nappy.

Babygros
Then cheap leggings etc ideally second hand as everything gets trashed. In a good way!

We always dressed ours in leggings and cardigans etc. Babygros felt like I hadn't dressed them and I already felt a bit judged as they went to nursery so young (it was in my head though!)

I don’t like baby grows at that age as it makes walking a bit tricky. I used to send DD1 in vest, legging, t shirts and socks.

surreygirl1987 · 19/09/2020 23:20

At that age I put him in a long sleeved vest and trousers/leggings

Hardbackwriter · 19/09/2020 23:25

I used to send mine in soft trousers, vest and maybe a long sleeved top/jumper over the top - but he wasn't ever wearing baby grows in the day by that point because he was crawling and cruising and they're not very practical for either. If your baby is used to wearing baby grows and comfortable then send them in that, there's no need to buy new clothes - in my experience they get trashed anyway!

Mine goes in a babygrow, as they have breakfast there (relatively late riser), and thenj clothes in afterwards, to stop clothes getting v messy with food first thing. Baby is with a CM though, and very flexible.

Ihaveoflate · 20/09/2020 07:15

Tops and leggings all bought in bundles from eBay. Don't dress in anything you want to keep stain free.

Doyouwantanothercuppa · 20/09/2020 07:20

You could always put a babygro in the bag as a spare outfit.

TheGriffle · 20/09/2020 07:26

Like others mine was sent in vest, leggings, socks, top and a jumper/cardigan or depending on the weather sometimes just a vest and leggings. She started at 10months.

BillywilliamV · 20/09/2020 07:33

Well, I sent my 3 year old in a Sleeping Beauty dress for 6 months because that was all she would wear.

DappledThings · 20/09/2020 09:04

Yes DD goes in leggings. She goes three days a week so I buy a pack of 4 whenever she goes up a size so she has enough for the week and a spare in the bag. I don't like leggings in general.so she doesn't wear them the other days of the week.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 20/09/2020 17:12

Anything you dont mind getting trashed or not seeing again. The nursery I send my son too has a washing machine, so quite often he'll come home in his spare clothes ive sent in, but I wont see the clothes again for weeks maybe because they wash them and keep them in his locker as spares

Babyboomtastic · 21/09/2020 19:35

Normal niceish clothes tbh, but both of mine hate getting dirty. My 3 year old write a or write dress the other Day (admittedly not to childcare), played outside, ate masks etc and they're wasn't a mark on it at the end of the day. I couldn't do that...

LittleBearPad · 21/09/2020 19:37

Leggings and a top - nothing that can’t get dirty or possibly stained beyond recovery

OverTheRainbow88 · 21/09/2020 19:42

Cheap cheap and cheap stuff!!!!

Echobelly · 21/09/2020 19:42

DD started at 8.5 months - I think I had her in little outfits, but practical ones, eg leggings and a long top.

rottiemum88 · 22/09/2020 12:47

DS started nursery around 8 months. We sent him in joggers/leggings and a vest/tshirt/jumper, weather depending. Very similar in summer, with some shorts and rompers thrown in. There were 15 babies in DSs room when he first started and I don’t recall ever seeing a baby in a baby grow, though DS was probably the youngest.

molifly14 · 22/09/2020 12:51

Defo clothes, why would you put a 9 month old in a baby grow when not bedtime? Weird
