Hello, someone has told me the reason babies should stay in the same room as you is because they can't regulate there breathing and If you are in the room it can help them breathe again. Is this true? I sleep with baby in the same room but we often have the fan on and she always sleeps with white noise so it's pretty loud in there. We can obv still hear if she stirs or cries but she wouldn't be able 2 hear us breathing.Should it be dead quiet in the room? Also there are occasions I put baby down 1st and then sort my older children out for bed before I go in the same room,I use a monitor so I'm still keeping an eye on her,is this ok to do? Thanks 🙂

No one knows for certain why being in the same room as an adult until 6 months for sleeping reduces sids. There are theories from adults’ breathing and general noises preventing deep sleep but they are theories.

A baby monitor makes no difference to SIDS. Babies dying from SIDS don’t make a noise.

The reality of family life is that it’s not always easy to be in the same room as your baby who is asleep. Only you can decide what level of risk is right for you and your family.

Both of mine stayed in with us until about 9months but went to bed at 7pm upstairs from about 3months. We used an angel care sensory mat monitor with both. I also questioned how babies are supposed to hear you breathing.
No we didn't follow guidelines but we wanted to get them into a routine and i wasn't about to go to bed a 7pm with them but it worked for us, not everyone will agree with our choice but lm sure im not the only one.
