Baby awake because of wind. Losing my mind

My 15 week old son just keeps waking up with a bad tummy. He is writhing about and grunting and obviously has trapped wind. I burp him after every feed (combination breast and formula fed) and I don’t know what else to do. I need to sleep and I can’t help him by picking him up/cuddling/feeding.

So do I just leave him there trying to get his wind out? What else can I do?

Can you tilt his cot?

By using something like books at his head end, So put the books on the floor...

So his head is just a little higher than the rest of his body?

Have you tried anti colic bottles?

HardJustGotHarder · 18/09/2020 03:33

Have you tried 'infacol'
Its amazing stuff...

But to get rid of the wind, Have a quick google and see what instant remedies google comes up with, Im sure there are afew

Thanks. I feel less lonely knowing other people are awake. I’ve given up on trying to sleep now. Feeling really frustrated. Why do things always seem worse at night?

I’ve given him some gripe water will see if it helps. I don’t want to pick him up and “wake him up” as if it’s day time?

Oh no, sounds like he has colic/reflux. Have you tried Infacol? Gripe water? Local pharmacy can help with that.
My little girl had it and would scream for 6 hours straight, exhausting.
The G.P may give you baby gaviscon, may send the baby for tests, make sure it’s nothing medical.

We had all the tests and various medications to help soothe her/get the wind out and were told to get ear plugs and just hold her. Also, don’t let her gulp milk, after she’s been sucking the bottle a few mins, stop, wind her, more milk, stop and wind & so on.

She would scream all night, then as she got older from 5pm-11pm. It did gradually get less. At four months I started to wean to solids.
Ring your G.P in the morning.

I Alsays pick up baby when really windy

Once it was out baby slept loads better for rest of night

HardJustGotHarder · 18/09/2020 03:46

I would pick him up, dont talk, keep the lights off, but wind him and see if you can help him a little

Kayjay2018 · 18/09/2020 03:47

@JKDcot this sounds like me with my 19 week old daughter last week. Something seemed to upset her tummy (also combi fed) and infacol didn't touch it. In the end I was recommended Dentinox colic drops and after about 4 doses she had the most disgusting nappy and started to get better. I'm trying to avoid giving it at every feed so am doing 3 doses a day and the trapped wind and through the night windy screams and crying have gone. I've also got some probiotic baby drops that I'm interested in trying

imdonenow · 18/09/2020 03:53

I swear by Infacol is the best out there. DS and I suffered many sleepless nights because of his trapped wind until I discovered Infacol which gives immediate relief.

amymel2016 · 18/09/2020 03:58

Pick him up OP, being upright on your chest will hopefully calm him a little and also relieve some of the trapped wind. Keep the lights off/low so he knows it’s night time.

Walking around with him giving him a little jiggle should also help. It’s tough, especially at night, but it’ll pass.

ElectricEels · 18/09/2020 04:08

If I'm certain it's not going to be a burp (in with case I pick up and wind) then I give gripe water and bicycle legs in the crib. Usually she lets out a cracking fart and immediately falls asleep.

cheeseycharlie · 18/09/2020 04:29

Another vote for infacol here.
Only wake him up if you can cope with the possibility that he might not go back to sleep easily. It's a high stakes gamble my friend. Maybe worth it for a chance of some sleep yourself

Nelbert19 · 18/09/2020 07:15

My 7 week old is very windy (hopefully temporarily as we’re both being treated for thrush at the mo) and also stirs hourly from 2am with trapped wind.

I lift his legs (like I’m changing his nappy) and then push his knees into his tummy - he’ll let out an unbelievable amount of wind and then go straight back to sleep. I don’t take him out of his crib unless that doesn’t work and he properly wakes up.

Reading the PPs, looks like I’ll be heading out to get some infacol today!

Exactly same as u, but what seems to have worked over the course of two days for us is changing to comfort formula, getting slow flow teats (he was guzzling!) And gripe water. Slept really well last night and we even had a couple of hours this morning
