13mo chipped tooth- feeling emotional

Hi all, my 13 mo tripped over my leg and chipped his tooth.
Picture attached
I feel (irrationally) emotional and awful - both because it was me he tripped over and (ashamedly) because of aesthetics (although I know it's only 'temporary' for the next 5 years until he looses it).
Has anyone experienced this?
Any hope of it wearing down a bit with time to be less obvious?
(Ps been reviewed by dentist who has advised to monitor but won't file etc due to age)
Any words of encouragement would be appreciated x

It’s fine. It looks kind of cute. My DS (3) has the same. That’s why they get practice teeth!

My daughter did exactly the same walking into a marble worktop at my friend's house. I was devastated! It's barely noticeable really, and her big teeth will be coming in soon - I got over it eventually!

Thank you for your responses :)
that's helped me feel a bit better

Yep - same tooth bigger chip! My DS crawled into a wAshing basket on our bed, it tipped over and they chipped the tooth n our floor.

It seems like years away, but the big teeth come in and you forget all about it. DS (18) fell and not only chipped his tooth, but shoved it right up his gum- it was awful but I got used to it and actually, he had such a cute, wonky smile. I was so worried though. He's got beautiful teeth now! Smile
DD chipped her tooth (I don't even know how. I just noticed it one day!). Again, the adult teeth come in soon enough and wash away the worry and guilt.
Your DS's chip will become a little part of him. It'll become part of the furniture, so to speak. And it helps to remember that his chip doesn't bother him. Don't make a thing of it. You'll be fine too. Flowers

Thank you so much, it's so reassuring to hear I'm not alone! Feeling better from your responses, thanks x

I noticed DS has a chip on his front tooth the other day - I actually have no idea how he got it which is probably worse! He face plants frequently so imagine he caught it while doing that. I always wondered why children got baby teeth and now I know!

ARR89 · 16/09/2020 11:45

@mynameiscalypso thank you, you're so right - they're baby teeth for a reason!! It's all practice i guess! And like other people have said, this will become part of our little ones life story. That must've been such a shock to suddenly notice a chip! Sounds like that's quite common too. Thanks for sharing, it's really helpful knowing others are/have gone through similar.

It's possibly not as bad as the fact that I didn't notice when DS got both his first and second teeth - both times, my DM pointed them out and I'd failed to see them Blush

Superscientist · 16/09/2020 13:12

I had a nasty fall when I was a toddler which chipped my adult teeth under my baby teeth. Nobody notices unless I point it out, not many people spend a lot of time staring at other peoples teeth!

Notabadger · 16/09/2020 13:28

My son knocked his front tooth out at a similar age and I felt similarly to you. People we have seen regularly since then still say to be me NOW 'oh I didn't realise he's lost a tooth'. He's 4! People don't notice teeth especially top teeth.

ARR89 · 16/09/2020 19:04

@superscientist- you're right! I think I've had my mama extra sensitive eyes on and it's all I noticed... but you're soo right thank you x

Thank you @notabadger, so glad to hear it's hardly noticeable for your son! I think I've been over thinking it (I know I have... but it's so helpful to have stories like yours to know I'm not alone and to put it in perspective!!) thankyou x

My little boy fell into his high chair and broke about a third of his front tooth out when he was toddling. He cried for about 2 mins and I cried for about 2 hours! I think it’s because they’re so little and perfect that it upsets you. It’s just part of him now and gives him a bit of character!

ARR89 · 16/09/2020 20:43

Thanks @katybutton you're so right- that's exactly what upset me- like the first scratch on a new car I guess 😂 I can totally relate to your 2 hours of crying- that must've been so upsetting at first but I'm so glad to hear all is okay now! :)

Please don't worry. I felt the same when it happened to my DD. She actually enddd up banging her mouth on a table AGAIN and now the tooth is discoloured slightly as well as chopped but we've taken her to a hospital dentist who said it's fine and unlikely to have damaged her adult teeth. It doesn't hurt her and it's not a dead tooth - someone I know recently had to take hers to hospital to have her tooth removed as she fell over and hit her tooth so hard it chipped and died.
