When did you stop bottle feeding?

for those who've always bottle fed and those who switched later on? Or did you go straight to cow's milk in sippy cup at 13 months?

12 months. IME the longer you leave it the harder it is.

Switched at 12 months to cow's milk in a cup in the morning and then switched out the formula and bottle at about 14 months when the last tub ran out!

Watching with interest, as LO is 12 months next week, so wondering what to do myself!

Bottles and formula went during the day at 11 months but this was under the guidance of a paediatric dietitian. She still had a bottle of soya milk overnight until 13 months.

I found it easier to switch both at the same time. DD had refused formula in a cup but happily drank cow's milk - to her it was a different drink.

17 months as I heard it gets harder after 18 months. I think it might be true, my DS was unbothered about the change to an offer of milk in a cup before bed (which he doesn't want). My friends who are still giving the bottle to their near 2 year olds say they think it might be harder to change now.

12 months when I switched fully to cows milk. It is far easier to do it at this age rather than it being a battle later on.

My DD switched to a sippy cup at 12 months at the same time as switching from formula to cows milk.
My DS switched to cows milk in a sippy cup in the morning but still has a bottle of warmed cows milk at bed time. He's 17 months and I know he should have switched over.
He is my last baby and I don't want him to grow up though. I think I'm probably holding him back in lots of ways because he's my 'baby boy'. I need to get over it.

Ds is only 10 months and I bf. I want to switch him to a bottle occasionally but not sure it's worth it then. I don't give him dairy so would have to be full fat oat milk when he's 12 months but wasn't sure how to slowly work this in.

Will he take it out of a sippy cup instead of a bottle ?

SqidgeBum · 15/09/2020 13:39

I stopped formula at 12 months, but she became quite tired and I thought she was missing the vitamins(despite having a fantastic diet), so I put her on follow on milk in a cup for a bit. Then at about 14 months I stopped the formula and did only cows milk, and then at 15 months I stopped the bottle and went to a cup. It took about 4 days for her to 'accept' a cup of milk rather than her bottle after dinner, which involved a lot of crying, but she got over it.

Thesearmsofmine · 15/09/2020 13:41

Does he drink out of a soppy cup with his meals? I would go with a cup over bottle at that age.

What I did with my dc was to give them a little drink of cows milk in a cup mid afternoon from around 11months. Not replacing a feed at that stage as they still had their bottles but just to give them a taste of it from a cup.
I also started changing things at the same age so that instead of a morning bottle in bed we got up, came downstairs and had that bottle and breakfast and evening milk was downstairs too before going up to do teeth etc, I think gradual little tweaks made it much easier to switch.

Findahouse21 · 15/09/2020 13:44

Dd (9 months) is breastfed but I have started introducing cows milk slowly as she isn't cutting down feeds herself and she goes to nursery soon. She seems much happier to take.it from a munchkin 360 cup, she disliked the tommee yippee sippy cups for milk

Ihaveoflate · 15/09/2020 14:50

Cows' milk at 12 months exactly (why would you want to keep spending loads of money on formula?)

Ditched all bottles apart from bedtime milk as she won't drink milk out of a cup (happy to drink water, though). She's 14 months so I think we'll keep the bedtime bottle for now - it's the only time she'll have milk apart from on cereal and in cooking.
