Hi,
Our baby boy is exactly 2 weeks old and he started to have problem with gass and colic... usually he is farting and popping nicely but some days he has got really big problem, his belly is "hard" and he is crying so badly.. we are doing belly massages and legs "exercise" but it's not so effective..

He is on combined feeding, should I try to drink fennel tea? Or does anyone have an experience with this emulgel??

Thank you

Newborn Colic

Did he have an assisted birth? Ds1 had awful colic, and we tried everything before someone recommended a cranial osteopath. I was v sceptical but it worked fantastically. Two treatments only turnrd him into a happy, relaxed, normal baby.

Ds2 also had colic but the osteopath said she didnt feel that it would help him at the initial examination. Instead we found Colief which really made a difference. It had to be given with every feed but I certainly knew the difference if we didnt.

Colic just means 'crying for no real reason' for extended periods every day, usually in the evening. It peaks at around 8 weeks I think and then begins to improve. Some people also call it developmental or 'purple crying'. It's awful but really normal and it will improve in time.

The digestive stuff is also really normal because their digestive system is underdeveloped. Again, it usually improves with time.

My advice would be to carry on soothing and comforting any way you can (you can't spoil a baby), give each other breaks and do anything you can to survive. It won't last forever but there really isn't a magic thing that will stop it IME, although cranial osteopathy did work for my baby (issues resulting from traumatic assisted delivery).
