Ok normally ds (2.3) goes to nursery a few mornings a week but this week he can't as he has an infectious illness (oh joy!)
He isn't too off colour though so we could get out of the house a bit....but what/ where?!

I am dreading this week as it will be so hard to fill them time - please post with ideas for things we could do either at home or out - but ones that aren't off limits due to the risk of other kids getting his lergy!

(We already do play dough, crayoning, painting, baking - and my waistline can't stand that at the moment anyway!)

very good for keeping child that age amused - fill sink with water, child on chair, give lots of stuff to wash

kept both my dd's entertained for hours

Lots of stories cuddled up together.
Toy cars - make a road together out of paper.
Go and collect lots of different Autumn leaves and then stick them onto a piece of paper together.
Threading coloured pasta to make a necklace.
Simon says.
Get him to help with housework e.g. finding matching socks, dusting, cleaning a table top

assume you could go to the park

are you anywhere near a beach / shore... thats anotehr nice place for a walk

yes at this time of year go for a nice long walk and collect leaves / conkers / acorns etc and make an autumn picture.

what about bike rides? do you have a bike seat or anything? or he could just ride his trike while you walk along.

My advice would be get out for some fresh air at some point every day... you could loan a few DVDs from the library to fill some time.

Are there anyfriends whose mums arnt bothered about this contagiouse illness who could coem for a play / lunch etc?

Do you have LOADS of train track.... we can spend hours building roads and tracks to fill the whole playroom!.... you can then make engine sheds / garages etc out of shoe boxes and decorate and paint them etc

Nanny L - it was me posting about the Brio! So to answer by Tuesday we will have loads as i have just ordered a massive set with a garage too - express delivery charge seemed worth it given the circumstances!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions so far - keep them coming!

i think you will LOVE all your brio!

Does he watch Peppa Pig? If so and it rains, get him kitted out in wellies and a mac and take him to your nearest woods/park for a Peppa Pig Muddy Puddles walk. He'll get filthy and love it!

GO to the park - parks are usually pretty empty during school hours (well they are round our way) and if you see anyone else with a LO just call out that you're contagious with whatever - they might go, oh well my DC has had it so no worries. Also (you don't say what it is, but if it's chicken pox for instance, are there any local kids who are not at nursery but have had it and therefore won't get it again, who could come and play?)

PregnantGrrrl · 08/10/2007 12:47

definately go to park- unless your child will seek out someone and lick his/her face, you'll be fine!

dvds, empty boxes, crayons, finger paints, books etc.

i entertained DS for 20mins the other night with a huge bag full of newspaper. Shredded it up and we threw it all over living room, his head, made pretend hair, walked through it. Cheap as anything. Then it can go in the recycling.

rebelmum1 · 08/10/2007 13:04

lots of cutting, glueing and sticking

boo64 · 08/10/2007 13:57

Not so bad so far - helped by the 45min wait for the GP which partly filled the morning!

There is no chance of ds going up to other kids and licking their faces as he definitely likes to keep his distance from kids he doesn't know!

But surely if we go to the park playground, ds could leave his germs on the swing or whatever and that would be unfair on other kids?

He has probably got Chicken pox by the way so not like he has something really hideous, although that said it can be dangerous for preg women. I say probably as the GP wasn't even sure as he doesn't have many spots and they aren't quite typical CP ones (but it is going around at nursery so likely)

if the park is empty, i don't see the problem. i think it very unlikely that someone would get chicken pox from touching the same swing / slide.

LongDeadMotherofHarryP · 08/10/2007 22:15

Dressing up
Riding on your back playing horsey
Making puppets out of old socks
Hiding toys for him to find in the garden or sitting room
The memory game with things on a tray
Make a paper cut out of him by drawing round him, then you can both "decorate" it.
Play hide and seek
Mine will play in the bath for ages with lots of plastic bottles, pots and pans

I think chicken pox and similar diseases are droplet-infection which means that your DS would have to sneeze o r slobber on someone to transmit it.

THere really aren't very many diseases you can get from toilt seats or the equivalent.
