out and about with potty

ds has started asking for the potty for poos which is fine if we are at home but I've only taken it out with us once this week to a toddler group because I knew he hadn't had a poo that day and he did use it.

What do you do? start taking the potty everywhere? really not keen on having ds sitting on it in middle of park for example... I'm pg and I can't find a toilet for myself when desperate sometimes so can't imagine ds could hang on!

I'm not to worried about getting rid of poo as I know tommee tippee do a travel potty with plastic bag its just the where to sit him, I really want to take advantage of the fact he's asking for the potty and not ignore it or tell him he has to go in his nappy....

Well, I just took the potty with me, shoved in the bottom of the pushchair and whipped it out when needed (even if we were out in the park). You only have to do this for a couple of weeks until you have faith in them that they can hold it til you get to a loo). I never got any odd comments off anyone..needs must and all that..... Saying that I never did see any other mums doing this and wondered how they did it..perhaps they stayed in all the time til their DS's had cracked it.

One bonus is you get really knowledgable about loos and which ones to use (shop ones are much better than public park ones if you can get to them). Just realised that it probably isn't something you'd want to brag about..being an expert on the best places to go for a crap!

Never took a potty out . Had a fold up toilet seat but rarely used it . Just planned our route so I knew where toilets were.

i used mine everywhere! in the queue at chessington, in the park, in town. you name it we used it there! easiest way i found was to put the brake on the buggy and then put pot by back wheels, then i crouched down next to dd and almost no-one could see what was going on! did have blanket for some times draped over handles to one side for little extra privacy. never got any negative comments, most people smiled at dd being grown up and me for being discreet. go for it dont et it stop you going out!

thank you - I think maybe everyone is so discrete which is why I haven't seen it! bit like bfeeding

i have one of those fold up toilet seats but ds not predictable enough, we've tried scheduled stops to 'try' but he doesn't perform just lets me know when he's ready!
I certainly don't want to stay in all day!

Try a foldable potty...with disposable bags for the potty.

Ebay

Mothercare

I wouldn't worry about what other people think. I would much rather a child went to wee or poo on a portable potty, as the other option is they do it in their pants which means it will probably end up on the floor. I've seen lots of mums out with potty's under the buggy so it is a very common thing.

I just took the potty out in the pushchair and stuck DD on it whenever and wherever she shouted "potty wee wee!". But then I have no shame about anything! Nor does DD. "Bush wees" are her new favourite thing - pants down and squatting on the grass when we're out walking the dogs.

That being said, when I was in town the other day it seemed that every second pushchair had a potty in it so lugging them about must be fairly common.
