Hospital grade breast pumps

Hi :) I'm currently going through relactation after stopping breastfeeding for a week and it's going well so far but I've heard that a hospital grade breast pump may really help the process and wondered if anyone had any experience or advice?
Does anyone know where I could hire one from apart from Medela or Ardo/NCT? They're about £50 for 14 days and then £50 for a month after!

Thanks :)

I had a medela electric pump at home and when I had my son we were admitted for a week and i used their medela pump and oh my god what a god send. I stopped breastfeeding for a week as my son had a tongue tie so a few days before he was booked in i restarted pumping to get my milk up and the medela really helped. Sorry i know you didn't want medela so my post in pretty pointless really but good luck x

@Couldntthinkofausername24 thanks for your reply!
It's not necessarily that I don't want a medela I just don't want to pay £47 on their website Shock was it their big hospital pump then rather than the ones you can buy from home and did it make a huge difference to your one from home?! If it's worth the £47 then I'll pay it if it's gunna help get us sorted :)

I would probably say they were the same. Only difference was the one in the hospital was double pump one so half the time but but yes it was a big one.

I’ve not tried it but people really recommend the spectra, which styles itself as a hospital grade pump but 1/10th of the cost of the medela symphony.

Speak to your MW/HV - there are some NHS discounts for medela hospital pumps. If your baby is premature, or loses significant weight for example. We got the discount because DD lost more than 10% of birth weight and was severely tongue tied, the hospital organised it for us. I think it reduced the price to about £30 a month and it was well worth it!

I also experienced the difference between home and hospital pump due to some extra hospital stays.

I did rent the Medela Symphony for a bit but agree it’s so expensive. Another one that I used in hospital and found excellent was the Ameda Elite, which can turn up on EBay second hand for about £150-200 so it depends how long you’re going to be using it as to whether that’s cheaper than renting. Here is an example: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ameda-Elite-Breast-Pump-with-New-Feeding-Bottles-and-Tubes/363098655108?hash=item548a5dc984:g:h98AAOSwt55fVp5m

Personally what I ended up buying, and rate highly, is the Ameda Lactaline. There was not much difference between that and the hospital grade in my opinion, and they were only £130 or so I believe.

But I’ve just remembered that for relactation the Medela Symphony has a particular setting to induce letdown. For that reason I would think it is possibly worth renting the Symphony for a month or so.
